The Dominican Republic poverty
Imagine getting up at 6:00 in the morning eating stale bread and leaving to Work at a sugar company for up to 12 hours a day and sometimes more. At the end of a hard work day full of beatings and getting yelled at you earn 4 dollars. Which is pretty good considering most poor people get only 2 dollars at the most. Living like that is pretty bad, but in some places in the Dominican Republic it gets much worse...
Why are they poor? The Dominican Republic has a high amount of poverty because the government of their country invests most of their money into tourism and its major export is sugar. Alot of the people in the Dominican Republic are farmers but the agricultural production is low, so many poor people farm AND work in the sugar companies and other places for a low wage.
Child labour The sugar companies sometimes use children too work because they are easier to handle if they get in a fight and they can be paid much less. For every ten adults that are employed in the Dominican Republic one person under thirteen is working for low or no wage.
Disease Millions people under the poverty line die every year in the Dominican Republic. People die from malaria, cancer, HIV/aids and even the common cold. So many people die a year because the health care is very bad so many people die from the flu. The flu
Housing Most if not all poor people in the Dominican Republic live in places called slums that surround the places that they work at, which in most cases is a farm or sugar companies
Education The Dominican Republic has very poor education. The government spends little or no money on schools and supplies needed to get a proper education. The few schools they have are in poor condition and are very cramped and unorganized.

  • 11. The average IQ of the Dominican republic is 72, which is really not that good
  • 12. Poor people get beat, excluded and scorned. They also have to face harsh winters, floods and other problems
  • 13. Solution- Ifad Ifad is an organization that helps raise money to by technology for farmers who can not make there basic needs. The technology helps the farmers efficiently and quickly develop their farm land resulting in a higher income. Ifad stands for International Fund for Agricultural Development. They also raise money to pay for seeds, grain and other produce. The Dominican Republic is improving steadily thanks to Ifad. Maybe one day poverty in the Dominican Republic will not be the big problem that is today.
