- Today I’m going to talk about histories and stories connected Japanese traditional cloth.
- Kimono is tyThis is Japanese traditional cloth. Kimono literally means “clothing” pical Japanese traditional cloth.
- The parts of Kimono have each names, but I don’t know some of them like “miyatsukuchi”. Furi is the sleeve below the armhole “Furi” has a funny story. I’m going to tell you a little about Furi.
- Here are two kinds of Kimono, and there is big differences between them. Do you know what is it? Yes.
- Kimono has an old history. If you read a classical Japanese story like “Genji story”, you can see Junihitoe. It’s an old style of Kimono.
- We can see Junihitoe stil now. In Hina-festival on March 3rd every year, Japanese decolate Hina-ningyo. Ningyo means a doll. I think when I was an elementary school student, most of household has Hina dolls like this picture. Warrior-dolls are displayed during the Boy's Festival which is on May 5th, and colorful hina dolls are displayed during the Girl's Festival in Japan. But nowadays less people have this dolls. I don’t know why but I thinks people don’t care about our tradition anymore. Also these dolls are really expensive. I think it costs from about 10,000 (ten million) to 50 million dollar for a set of hina-ningyo.
