2. What is vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a skin
disease that
causes white stains
in many parts of the
body. This occurs
when the
melanocytes* are
destroyed.

It isn't known what causes this disease,
but some researchers think that
melanocytes destroy themselves.
Others think that an event such as sunburn
or emotional distress.
This disease affects men and women of all
races.
Vitiligo may also be hereditary.
