1. STEP BY STEP CREATION
OF MY MAGAZINE
By Steven Knowles
2.
3. FRONT COVER
STEP 1
• This is the very start of my front cover
which includes the basic layout; black
background, footer and masthead.
• The name of the magazine, „moshpit‟
came to me because that is what
happens at rock concerts. It connotes the
atmosphere of a rock concert into my
magazine.
4. FRONT COVER
STEP 2
• For the next step of my cover page I
added the header and footer captions
onto my front cover. I also added the
barcode which allows my magazine to
follow the conventions of a normal music
magazine.
• The captions at the header and footer are
used to entice the audience into buying
the magazine along with the coverlines.
The top caption will entice the audience
because concerts are expensive and
Muse is a really big rock band. The footer
caption is used to show the audience a
bit of what is inside the magazine. It
shows if the magazine is interesting.
5. FRONT COVER
STEP 3
• For the next step in the creation of my
magazine, I added the issue
number, month of when the magazine is
released, the price of the magazine and a
selling line.
• The selling line is really important as it
shows to the audience the significance of
the magazine. If a new buyer was
interested, the line “The UK‟s number 1
rock and roll magazine” will tell them that
the magazine is accomplished and is very
popular.
• The issue number, date and price is
important information for a new buyer as
it tells them about the magazine like how
many magazines have been published.
6. FRONT COVER
STEP 4
• Step 4 of my magazine creation was the
most important out of the 5 steps. I added in
the image for my front cover along with the
main coverline and an image to go with the
other coverlines.
• The image on my cover page has been
altered and cropped out of its background. I
had to get it perfect otherwise I might have
cut off an important part like a finger etc.
• The main coverline directly links with the
main image. It fits perfectly in the middle of
the cover and is inline with the image.
• The beats image is used for the free beats
coverline I added in step 5 of the cover
creation.
7. FRONT COVER
STEP 5
• For the final step of my front cover
creation, I added the coverlines to attract
the audience to my magazine.
• The free beats competition will attract a
wide audience as beats are a worldwide
fashion statement that everyone likes.
• The interview with the Arctic Monkeys
coverline will attract a huge audience as
they are one of the biggest rock bands in
the UK.
• The midlands gig list will be very
appealing as my magazine is based in
the midlands. It will attract a rock
audience in the midlands.

9. CONTENTS PAGE
STEP 1
• The first step of my contents page
creation was to add the two main
mastheads of my contents page.
• The main masthead, “CONTENTS” was
added first and follows the conventions of
my magazine. It is in the font that I have
used throughout the creation of my
magazine.
• The font was Rockwell Condensed.
• The other masthead, “MOSHPIT” is the
name and masthead of my entire
magazine.
10. CONTENTS PAGE
STEP 2
• Step 2 of my contents page creation was
to put in the layout of where I am going to
put images and articles. I laid it out by
using lines which separated the sections
evenly.
• I also added the date into the contents
page that is the same as on the front
cover.
11. CONTENTS PAGE
STEP 3
• Step 3 of my contents page creation
involves adding the articles I created
earlier in a word document. The articles
include the magazine index along with
the note from the editor(me), the local gig
list and the subscribe message.
• The local gig list article directly links with
a cover line on the front cover.
12. CONTENTS PAGE
STEP 4
• The final step of my contents page
creation was to add the two images of
record producer Elliot Hardy, picture of
Thor and the captions on the
photographs.
• I also made sure I followed the
conventions of my house style by using
the colours white, red and black
dominantly over the green and yellow.
• For the house style, I further used the
same font throughout the magazine.
13.
14. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
STEP 1
• For step 1 in the creation of my double page
spread, I added the masthead of my magazine
onto the page.
• This added a consistent house style to my music
magazine and allows it to follow the conventions
of a normal magazine as most magazines do this.
15. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
STEP 2
• For step 2 of my double
page spread creation, I
added the page divider and
the sub-heading.
• The sub-heading makes the
magazine seem more rock
like and adds a theme to the
magazine. The slang used
is directly related to the
genre of rock.
16. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
STEP 3
• For step three of my double
page spread creation, I added
the article and the page
number.
• The article is white which is
again a colour within my
magazine‟s house style.
• I added in a drop cap which
follows the conventions of a
real magazine and is used
globally.
• The page number of my
magazine allows the audience
to find pages easily and is
related to the numbers in the
contents page. This also is a
convention of a real music
magazine.
17. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
STEP 4
• For step 4 of my double page
spread creation, I added the title
of the double page spread and
the main image.
• The main image is of THOR who
is the star I have interviewed for
my article.
• The title of my double page
spread is „THOR!!!‟ which is the
name of the rock artist I have
interviewed.
18. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
STEP 5
• For the final step of my double
page spread creation, I have
added the second image which
is in a white box. I also have
added a caption which relates
to the two images on my double
page spread.
• The two images I have used
show the new rock artist „Thor‟
showing off for his article.
• The caption I have used follows
normal magazine conventions.
