- For this webinar we will identify the 21 leadership lids and focus on the Mother of all of the lids- The MYOPIA Lid that relates to Maxwell’s #1 Law of the Lid.1. The first leadership lid is the most limiting of all. I call it the Myopia Lid and it relates to Maxwell’s Law of the Lid directly and all 20 of the other lids indirectly: The Myopia lid is characteristic of the leader with shortsighted vision for himself, his team, department, and/or company. An obvious paradox but quite common; it denotes leaders who are uncoachable and cannot or will not grasp that they could even have self-limitations to their leadership ability.
- The INHIBITION Lid- This lid relates to #2 The Law of Influence: We might call this the Failure to Launch lid because of descriptive words such as inability, incapability, inhibited, introversion disorder, and so on. If you cannot influence others, you cannot lead.
- The RANDOM Lid- Relates to #3 The Law of Process: People with this lid have resistance to growth and change but specifically may not see their job, department, or organization as an integral part of the whole. They may not truly comprehend where their task or department fits into the overall process of the organization. They may plan many programs and events that are random, disconnected, and fail to incrementally add value and growth. The key to fixing this lid is in the word “incremental.” Growth is a process and not an event. It is better to show an incremental increase that is steady and sustainable than to try many different approaches that result in some wins and some losses. The problem with the random lid sales person is that they may have some big wins but show little in regard to sustainability.
- The CHAOS Lid- Relates to The Law of Priorities: Some people are resistant to setting priorities. They may focus on one project one day and another project the next. But their biggest problem is that they allow the urgent things to sabotage the important things. The photo for this lid may illustrate how the city leaders should have focused on building infrastructure instead of urgent issues such as political agendas.
- The IMPATIENCE Lid- Relates to #14 The Law of Buy-In: Many leaders make a decision and expect everyone just to jump on board. They fail to take the time to present, build development time and buy-in time into the launch of something new or a change in how things are done, shut-up and listen to the input of those they need buy-in from, and time for people to fully accept the new idea. The Law of Buy-In is one of the leadership competencies that is dependent on other Laws being applied in tandem such as the Laws of process, empowerment, and timing.
