2. Agenda
• Why Dell Cabs?
• Introduction to driver cabs
• Creating OS image
• Importing *Driver Cab
• Injecting Winpe drivers
• Creating task sequence
• OS Deployment
*Driver cab is also referred as Dell Command | Deploy Driver Pack
3. Why Dell Cabs?
• Administration of large dell enterprise requires consistent
methods for managing the diverse network clients.
• IT departments typically manage a heterogeneous mix of
decentralized client hardware and various software
applications.
• It’s a pain to install os and required drivers/applications
on large number of clients .
4. Solution
• To cater the pain points of Dell Customers ,Dell is
providing a solution to leverage the operating system
deployment (OSD) capabilities using Microsoft System
Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr/SCCM 2012
)/KACE/MDT with the Dell Client System Deployment
CABs (Dell Command | Deploy Driver Pack) to deploy a
customized OS image on Dell client systems.
5. Introduction to Driver Cabs
• Cab Consist of raw drivers and Manifest.xml
• Manifest.xml carries the information regarding drivers packed in the cab Cab
Structure
• CABs are of three types:
System CABs :designed for deployment to a single model
Combo CABs: designed for deployment to multiple models
WinPE CABs : designed to provide required drivers for WinPE to boot a Dell machine
• A driver Cab is released for an Operating System Family
• A New Driver CAB is spun based on set of Drivers availability for list of devices,
It might be new or either old.
• Cabs are released on the cadence like monthly, once in two months , Quarterly

10. Pre-requisite
• System Centre Configuration Manager(SCCM) needs to
be installed on a server
• Dell Client Integration Pack(DCIP) needs to be installed
• Download the required winpe driver cab and Driver cab
from Support site
• Obtain the OS image
11. Deployment
Deployment typically refers to install OS with drivers
includes following steps to be deployed through sccm to
target box
-Download driver cab needed for deployment for a specific
Operating Systems.
-Inject Winpe drivers to boot image
-Build Images for mass deployment of Operating Systems.
-Import drivers into the boot image
-Create Task Sequence
- OS Deployment
13. Steps to inject winpe drivers to boot
image
• Download the Winpe driver cab from support site
• Extract cab and copy it to the local host/UNC share path
• Ensure Default boot images are present in sccm console
• Follow the below slides to add winpe drivers to the boot
images
• Below slides show to add drivers for one architecture
only ,same procedure has to be followed for other
architecture as well
14. • Open Config Manager console ,Select Operating
Systems ,Select drivers and click Import Driver
28. Steps to create os image
• Copy the required iso os image to local host or UNC
share path
• Extract iso image
• Follow the next slides to create os image required for os
deployment
29. Open Config manager console ,Select Operating System
Image and click on Add Operating System Image
30. Operating System Image Wizard is Opened, Browse and
point to the os image folder where os image is extracted
47. Steps to Import Driver Cab
• Download the Driver cab required for a platform and
specific to os
• Copy cab to localhost /UNC share path
• Follow next slides to import cab through DCIP
48. Open Config Manager console ,Select Dell System Cab Driver Package, right
click ,select Dell Client Integration Pack and then Import Client Driver Package
56. Steps to create task sequence
• Once os image is created, Winpe drivers are added to
boot image and driver cab is imported successfully then
follow the next slides to add all the above created
packages to task sequence
57. Open config manager console,Select Bare Metal Client
Deployment template as shown
79. Steps to be performed in target box
• When the task sequence is deployed from sccm , Connect Network
cable to target box
• In the target box Press F2 and enable On-board nic option to boot
from Pxe, select required modes AHCI or RAID or ATA mode and
click apply
• Press F12 and select On-board Nic option and then boot window
prompts user to press F12, then loads the default boot image
available from the distribution points
• Task sequence wizard is seen, select the task sequence created in
earlier steps and proceed with the deployment process
