QUESTION ASSIGNMENT 1

A proposed development will be constructed near the Putrajaya-Kajang highway as
   shown in Figure 1.

                                   Proposed
                                   Development

              To Putrajaya To Kajang

                                             Figure 1

The development consists of an office building with 102,000 square meter floor area and
   a 295 units condominium tower.

It is expected will attract 3.3 person-trips per 100 square meter floor area per hour in
the morning, whereas the condominium will produce 1.45 person-trips per unit per
hour. It is estimated that only 16% of the generated trip by the condominium destine to
the office building in the development area.

                      Mode Split Average
                                                        Capacity

                      Car 55% 1.9

                      Motorcycle 9% 1.15

                      Bus 36% 50

   You are required to:

a) Compute production and attraction.
b) Compute the number of persons entering and exiting the development area per hour in
   the morning.
c) Compute the number of each transport mode entering and exiting the development in
   the morning.
d) If 80% of the attraction is from Kajang, determine the minimum width of the bridge.
SOLUTION ASSIGNMENT 1

a) Compute production and attraction

Land Use Residential Unit Production rate Morning production
                                              (person-trip / unit / (person-trip / hr)
                                                      hr)
Condominium 295 1.45 428

Land Use Residential Unit (m2) Attraction rate Morning Attraction
                                              (person-trip / m2 / (person-trip / hr)
                                                      hr)
Office building (102000/100) = 1020 3.3 3366

b) Compute the number of persons entering and exiting the development area per hour in
the morning

Land Use Number of person Number of persons Number of persons
from the entering the exiting the
                          condominium development area development area
                                               (person-trip / hr) (person-trip / hr)
                      destine to the office
                         building in the
                       development area
                        (person-trip / hr)
 Development area (16/100) x 428 = 68 3366 – 68 = 3298 428 – 68 = 360
c) Compute the number of each transport mode entering and exiting the development in
the morning

Number of each vehicle entering development:

Land Use Entering Modal Split Person Trip Number of vehicles
car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus
Development 3298 55% 9% 36% 1814 297 1187 955 258 24
    area
                                    TOTAL 955 258 24

Number of each vehicle exiting development:

Land Use Exiting Modal Split Person Trip Number of vehicles
car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus
 Development 360 55% 9% 36% 198 32 130 104 28 3
     area
                                    TOTAL 955 258 24

D) If 80% of the attraction is from Kajang, determine the minimum width of the bridge.

Land Use Attraction from kajang (person-trip / hr)
 Development area (80/100) x 3298 = 2638

     Numbers Quantity
       Cars 2638/1.9 = 1388
Lane *For Malaysian Standard: 1800 Cars Per Link

                                                      1388/1800 = 0.77 ≈ 1

       Items Description
Bridge Width *assume 1 lane is 3.5m, road shoulder is 1m, marginal strip is 0.5m.

Therefore, bridge width for two lane is:
                           = (3.5m + 1m + 0.5m) x 2
                           = 10m

  • 1. TITLE : URBAN TRANSPORTATION ASSIGNMENT 1 NAME : MUHAMMAD BIN RAMLAN MATRIX NO : P 57600 SUBJECT : KKKA 6564 YEAR : 2011/2012 LECTURER : PROF IR DR RIZA ATIQ O.K. RAHMAT
  • 2. QUESTION ASSIGNMENT 1 A proposed development will be constructed near the Putrajaya-Kajang highway as shown in Figure 1. Proposed Development To Putrajaya To Kajang Figure 1 The development consists of an office building with 102,000 square meter floor area and a 295 units condominium tower. It is expected will attract 3.3 person-trips per 100 square meter floor area per hour in the morning, whereas the condominium will produce 1.45 person-trips per unit per hour. It is estimated that only 16% of the generated trip by the condominium destine to the office building in the development area. Mode Split Average Capacity Car 55% 1.9 Motorcycle 9% 1.15 Bus 36% 50 You are required to: a) Compute production and attraction. b) Compute the number of persons entering and exiting the development area per hour in the morning. c) Compute the number of each transport mode entering and exiting the development in the morning. d) If 80% of the attraction is from Kajang, determine the minimum width of the bridge.
  • 3. SOLUTION ASSIGNMENT 1 a) Compute production and attraction Land Use Residential Unit Production rate Morning production (person-trip / unit / (person-trip / hr) hr) Condominium 295 1.45 428 Land Use Residential Unit (m2) Attraction rate Morning Attraction (person-trip / m2 / (person-trip / hr) hr) Office building (102000/100) = 1020 3.3 3366 b) Compute the number of persons entering and exiting the development area per hour in the morning Land Use Number of person Number of persons Number of persons from the entering the exiting the condominium development area development area (person-trip / hr) (person-trip / hr) destine to the office building in the development area (person-trip / hr) Development area (16/100) x 428 = 68 3366 – 68 = 3298 428 – 68 = 360
  • 4. c) Compute the number of each transport mode entering and exiting the development in the morning Number of each vehicle entering development: Land Use Entering Modal Split Person Trip Number of vehicles car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus Development 3298 55% 9% 36% 1814 297 1187 955 258 24 area TOTAL 955 258 24 Number of each vehicle exiting development: Land Use Exiting Modal Split Person Trip Number of vehicles car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus car motorcycle bus Development 360 55% 9% 36% 198 32 130 104 28 3 area TOTAL 955 258 24 D) If 80% of the attraction is from Kajang, determine the minimum width of the bridge. Land Use Attraction from kajang (person-trip / hr) Development area (80/100) x 3298 = 2638 Numbers Quantity Cars 2638/1.9 = 1388 Lane *For Malaysian Standard: 1800 Cars Per Link 1388/1800 = 0.77 ≈ 1 Items Description Bridge Width *assume 1 lane is 3.5m, road shoulder is 1m, marginal strip is 0.5m. Therefore, bridge width for two lane is: = (3.5m + 1m + 0.5m) x 2 = 10m
