54. LO G O S
P Logos for Associations
O Grammatiche Metropolitane
P Milan [Italy]
Y 2011
T Andrea Boschetti, Antonella Florence,
Alberto Francini, Leopoldo Freyrie, Nicola Russi
[tutors]
// The urban observatory ‘Grammatiche Metropolitane’
- literally ‘Metropolitan Grammars’ - was born in January
2011, founded by Andrea Boschetti, Antonella Florence,
Alberto Francini, Leopoldo Freyrie, Nicola Russi.
One of the goal of the cultural association is to investigate
on urban transformation and cities new researches, by
different instruments, such as editory, events, publications
and projects about communication.
The logo has been designed starting from the suggestion
coming from the old typing machine, used in the past in
school books and in first grammars texts; it stands for a
parallel between first grammars concepts in a language
and basic and necessary principles in urban planning.
// NIL28 is a cultural association of designers,
architects and artists in different fields; born in March
2011, thanks to the support of ‘Grammatiche Metropolitane’,
it was founded by four creative offices - dotdotdot, Sergio
Colantuoni, Controprogetto and Metrogramma - , in order to
make the inhabitants of NIL28 - a precise neighborhood
in Milan - aware of the presence of a rich network of
creativity all around them.
More than thirty offices of architecture and design are
currently ordinary members and the logo has been
designed as a territorial scheme of the three networks -
architects, designers and artists -, as they are linked in the
neighborhood.

citizens and artists

// ’Seduta di Quartiere’ can be defined as a real
street party as in the English ‘tradition’.
It was the first initiative promoted by NIL28 and
its thirty creative members: a 130 meters long
table, made by recycled wood, divided into
thirty single table for the thirty offices artistic
installations.
The long table occupied a public space in Via
Cadolini in Milan, during the ‘Salone del Mobile’,
one of the most important event in Milan, related
to design world.
The ‘Salone del Mobile’ usually takes place in the
city center of Milan, while ‘Seduta di Quartiere’
took place in a pheripherical area of Milan, as a
unconventional event.
The aim of the event was to start a new dialogue
between citizens and artists of the neighborhood
by sitting at the same table, eating, playing and
watching performances all together.
The only rule: take your own seat!

a series of three workshops, an exhibition
and a conference about a bamboo module
for emergency

and Irene Caltabiano [tutors]
with S. Peditto and M. Severini [working
team] and with S. Martin and J. Savarese
[designers of the bamboo module]
// As group of students from the Politecnico of
Turin, thanks to the Fund for students activities,
we builded a bamboo prototype in Turin in May
2010.
The aim was to promote the use of bamboo as
a building material, expecially in emergency
conditions for instant shelter.
Thanks to the collaboration with two architects,
it was possible to build a ‘box’ for emergency,
by which assembly a bamboo repair, made by
modules.
The organization of the entire bamboo session
was constitued by three workshops for thirty
students for each one, a conference and an
exhibition, which took place in the Castello del
Valentino in Turin, with all the materials of the
‘learning by doing’ process.
