39. so - in short, because I am running out of time….. Prepare with zeal, see and write down to believe, expect to make your own luck and future - write it down, yes, again ! Look after the individuals to mould them into a team, get ready to innovate, learn from others who do, and even don't, communicate it, communicate it again, check it’s been communicated, hire more women, don't overpromise, but aim to over deliver, say thanks, be interested and don't forget how privileged we are to live in this wonderful country of endless opportunity.
Team Excellence Speech Intro If not excellence – then what ? or why ? I left South Africa because of non understanding, youth, inexperience, frustration etc etc – I think I also left because I have been lucky, in some small areas of my life to be exposed to excellence – in rough forms mostly, because excellence should be unattainable – should be, but as the Olympics have proved , and I am not talking about our performance – (yet ! we’ll get onto that) but rather that excellence, like any goal , target or achievable state- shifts Michael Johnson was, and still is , excellent – but usain bolt just shifted the expectations of what excellence really is .. (19seconds or ten seconds – whichever is more impressive , then again in slow mo ) he even pulled up – is he excellent yet ? So please treat this speech and me with the thorough contempt I deserve as a public speaker – I will try and show you how I look at excellence – or at least how I look at things that I look at – and will put up some eclectic ideas, not all relevant, or interesting or even new – but all things that I would argue are at least worth being part of a collective exploration. Well at least one by an already long retired and many times concussed ex rugby player.
