Soy protein has several health
benefits such as helping to lower
cholesterol levels and preventing
osteoporosis. Soy protein can
also help ease the symptoms of
women experiencing
menopause. So for women, I
suggest taking a serving a day.
However, when it comes to decreasing body fat, the best
choices for proteins are whey, casein and egg proteins. All of
these proteins are more of a complete source of protein (this
means that they offer more amino acids to help repair the
muscle tissue after performing weight training) than soy and
they do not contain the phytoestrogens that soy contains.
While phytoestrogens are of some benefit to women
experiencing menopause, they wreak havoc in a man’s
testosterone levels.

2. Many may argue and say that soy protein is not high in
calories and it cannot be that bad for you to take on a daily
basis. While I am not saying that it is bad to take, I simply
am stating that the other proteins mentioned above are a
complete source of amino acids which in turn will help your
body recover optimally and at an accelerated pace. In
addition, proteins like whey can help you display a leaner
physique while promoting better immunity.
It is important to remember that regardless of the type of
protein source used, each gram of protein will have 4
calories per gram. Although if you have read any of my
articles by now, you should know that it is not as important to
count how many calories you eat to lose weight, but rather
the amount and timing of the macronutrients you consume.
