Since we require WorkKeys, we provide the assessment.  If you have not taken the assessment, please speak with TAA staff about this.

TAA-Trade Adjustment AssistanceInvestigating the Occupations & Training Institutions, page 2 of 2.  Check     4. Suggestions: Use a document program to complete this section. Answer each      in a paragraph. Capture the reader’s interest with a great topic sentence.
Check    4, IP 1   This is where taking  ownership should be obvious! Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. For your first paragraph, write  a response similar to this: “Based on the research I completed, this plan offers me the best opportunity to train for a viable occupation and to secure future employment for someone in my circumstances, a Dislocated Worker with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.  I have searched for engineer positions in a 50-mile radius of my home.  In the last 18 months, there have been no openings for engineers.  The occupation and course of study I have chosen is Dental Hygiene because I have always had an aptitude for science, and my WorkKeys scores are high.  Also, the Interests and Values Analyzers both matched my strengths to Dental Hygiene.” The first sentence restates the purpose & end result of the training plan, and shows that you realize what those mean. Using pronouns like I, me, and my  with the name of the occupation demonstrates to the reader that you take ownership of the plan. Justification for your choice is evident because you referred to your ICC Interest & Values results and your WorkKeys results.
Check    4, IP 2   Refer to findings from your investigation and research to explain your occupational training choice.            Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. “Many job opportunities are open to certified dental hygienists in Indiana.  Trained dental hygienists work with and for professional dentists, orthodontists, and prosthodontists in clinics, medical centers, and nursing care facilities.  Occupational statistics from the O*Net, Indiana Career Connect.com, and the Region 4 Occupations-in-Demands list show a 27% - 36% upward trend in annual job openings and net replacement for dental hygienists.  The projected increase in is due in part to people living longer, and good dental hygiene is a key component in a person’s quality of life.”   The first sentence answers how likely you are to find employment after training. Using O*Net data, you show the variety of professionals who need someone with your skills.  These related occupations are found at the bottom of the O*Net page.  Show specific data %’s from the O*Net, ICC, and Demands lists in your paragraph.  Using these statistics justifies that there will likely be a job for you if you complete the course of study in a timely manner.
Check    4, IP 3   Refer to findings from your investigation and research to explain your choice of training providers.Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. “I have chosen Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis as my training provider because it is the closest (61 miles one-way) to my home, offers a 2-year Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene, I can apply online, it offers several educational grants for which I qualify, and the cost per credit hour is no more than other training providers with similar programs.” Include as many positive facts about your training provider  choice.  Use these facts to support the choice and sell the reader on your decision.
Check    4, IP 4   Unemployment Benefits and/or Student Loans are not an Option Here!   Justify what other funding(s) you have available.  Here is an example:  “Funding is an essential part of my planning, and I view it seriously.  If this plan is approved, I realize, as I near completion of my training and/or if the training takes longer to complete than the timeframe stated, TAA  funds my not cover all of my training costs.  If needed, any costs not covered by TAA funds will be paid for with money from my (Choose two of the following.) working spouse, my savings account, funds I set aside after taking a buy-out, my unused college fund my parents established.”

  • 14. Check 4, IP 1 This is where taking ownership should be obvious! Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. For your first paragraph, write a response similar to this: “Based on the research I completed, this plan offers me the best opportunity to train for a viable occupation and to secure future employment for someone in my circumstances, a Dislocated Worker with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. I have searched for engineer positions in a 50-mile radius of my home. In the last 18 months, there have been no openings for engineers. The occupation and course of study I have chosen is Dental Hygiene because I have always had an aptitude for science, and my WorkKeys scores are high. Also, the Interests and Values Analyzers both matched my strengths to Dental Hygiene.” The first sentence restates the purpose & end result of the training plan, and shows that you realize what those mean. Using pronouns like I, me, and my with the name of the occupation demonstrates to the reader that you take ownership of the plan. Justification for your choice is evident because you referred to your ICC Interest & Values results and your WorkKeys results.
  • 15. Check 4, IP 2 Refer to findings from your investigation and research to explain your occupational training choice. Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. “Many job opportunities are open to certified dental hygienists in Indiana. Trained dental hygienists work with and for professional dentists, orthodontists, and prosthodontists in clinics, medical centers, and nursing care facilities. Occupational statistics from the O*Net, Indiana Career Connect.com, and the Region 4 Occupations-in-Demands list show a 27% - 36% upward trend in annual job openings and net replacement for dental hygienists. The projected increase in is due in part to people living longer, and good dental hygiene is a key component in a person’s quality of life.” The first sentence answers how likely you are to find employment after training. Using O*Net data, you show the variety of professionals who need someone with your skills. These related occupations are found at the bottom of the O*Net page. Show specific data %’s from the O*Net, ICC, and Demands lists in your paragraph. Using these statistics justifies that there will likely be a job for you if you complete the course of study in a timely manner.
  • 16. Check 4, IP 3 Refer to findings from your investigation and research to explain your choice of training providers.Don’t forget to write in complete sentences. “I have chosen Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis as my training provider because it is the closest (61 miles one-way) to my home, offers a 2-year Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene, I can apply online, it offers several educational grants for which I qualify, and the cost per credit hour is no more than other training providers with similar programs.” Include as many positive facts about your training provider choice. Use these facts to support the choice and sell the reader on your decision.
  • 17. Check 4, IP 4 Unemployment Benefits and/or Student Loans are not an Option Here! Justify what other funding(s) you have available. Here is an example: “Funding is an essential part of my planning, and I view it seriously. If this plan is approved, I realize, as I near completion of my training and/or if the training takes longer to complete than the timeframe stated, TAA funds my not cover all of my training costs. If needed, any costs not covered by TAA funds will be paid for with money from my (Choose two of the following.) working spouse, my savings account, funds I set aside after taking a buy-out, my unused college fund my parents established.”

  1. At the time you submit your training plan, you and a TAA staff member complete, initial, and sign this page.
  2. The Vendor Form is for different uses:  Mainly it is for reimbursement by direct deposit because that is the only way TAA will pay.  For the client it would be used to reimburse them for any approved out of pocket cost.  Example - Such as if the client was in HVAC training and needed tools that the school didn't provide for them to buy at the book store.  They would need to purchase the tool (after we approved the purchase) and bring in the receipt.  We would complete the paperwork and submit for reimbursement.  They only reimburse by direct deposit.Example - The same would be for someone in Nursing who needed shots and the school did not provide them.  They would pay for the shots, bring in the receipt, sign the forms and get reimbursed by direct deposit. The client's Student Handbook they receive once the training plan is turned in gives a brief overview of different things the TAA program pays for.  The client needs to remember that everything must be pre-approved.
  3. You must investigate 3 people who have a job in the occupation that you want to train for but who are in different companies. You CANNOT return to the company you were dislocated from.
  4.   5. TAA pays for all training cost except consumable products. If we add more time because of remedial training and do a modification, TAA will still pay for the tuition and books. The question of how will you maintain your financial needs when unemployment runs out refers to household bills/living expenses since TAA pays for tuition and books.
  6. 1st O*Net Clip: The O*Net results for your chosen occupation is 6 pages in length.2nd O*Net Clip: At the bottom (page 6) of the O*Net report, you will see Related Occupations. These will be helpful to your research. Below them is listed State & National. In the box, choose Indiana. Then click GO.3rd O*Net Clip: This is the linked page that appears.
