Media Evaluation Presentation Bradley Merle
Ways In which Our Media Product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products Our media project used products like editing software, make-up, costume and on-scene-effects just like real media products use. By using editing software we were able to edit the film to help convey to the audience certain emotions like fear and confusion. Editing software also allowed us to add multiple effects like muzzle flashing from the gun and lighting effects; by changing the lighting we challenge the challenged the standard concept that horror exists only at night and therefore gave the film an outstanding quality that set it apart from the rest. Effects like muzzle flashes from guns are also used in all forms of media from film to internet commercials to add a sense of realism to any form of media. Make-up, costume and on-scene- effects are also used in real media products but were also implemented into our film. We used make-up to help the audience realise that something isn't alright about the people following our main characters, we also used old, torn and damaged looking costumes to show how theses “zombie” have been like this for some time. All these products are used in media to help back up what ever the producer of the media may want to communicate to his audiance.
How our Media Product represents particular social Groups Many social groups are represented in our media product. First of all Horror fans and zombie fans alike will feel an instant connection as it is and introduction to a zombie horror film. Survivalist will be interested as well as it raises many issues about what people may be forced to do in certain situations to survive. Even the average person may be interested in the film as it is about normal people placed in an abnormal situation.
What Media Institution Might distribute our Media Product I think there may be two possible places that our media project could be distributed to, firstly the movie industry and secondly the internet (more specifically YouTube). Being that the project is an introduction to a movie it would be sold as part of a movie to cinemas for people to pay to watch. If we also distributed just the first two minuets to a website like YouTube then it would enable a wider audience to view it and then feel the need to go and see it in their local cinema
Our Audience for our media product Audiences that are into horror, thriller, zombie apocalyptic themes may be interested in this film. Being that its a Zombie horror film we are aiming at the zombie horror fans for the franchise. But we also feel that every day people and survivalist will like the film as it has relatable main characters and survivalist situations that may attract a wider range of an audience.
How we Attracted our Audience Our group used certain methods to attract our audience. First of all we started the film straight into the action instantly drawing them in. We swiftly had explained the plot line and began the action, after our research task we realized that this is exactly what our consumers wanted. We also ensured that background and foreground sound was clear to catch anyone's attention passing by the film as its playing.
What have I learnt about technologies used during the project During my main task I learned many things about how to use editing software and after effects software. I learned about how long, hard and complicated editing is. That sometimes its simple not possible to create the thing you had in your mind mainly due to how complicated it may be to create. Also effect have to be used as little a possible otherwise they look terribly cheesy and unbelievable which can ruin a film.
What Have I learnt since the new product? I have learnt many things since I began this project. First of all editing needs to take everything in a scene including when an actor smiles or grins inappropriately. It happened in our preliminary which made it seem unprofessional. Always ensure you use as many camera angles as possible, they can help express so much than a line or actor can. For instance when George gets angry an zoom in to his face could have shown this and magnified it a million time, we did use it to show the fear when the zombies walked toward the survivors to show their fear and desperation. I also learnt bout effects and many other things that make a film amazing.
