POLLUTION
 It is the introduction of contaminants into the natural
environment that cause adverse change.
 Pollution can take form of chemical substance or
energy such as noise, heat or light.
 Pollutants are the components of pollution can be
either foreign substance or naturally occurring
contaminants.
Types of pollution
 Air pollution
 Water pollution
 Noise pollution
 Soil pollution
 Thermal pollution
 E-waste pollution
NOISE POLLUTION
 It is the disturbance or excessive noise that may harm
the activity or balance of human or animal life.
 Noise is generally used as an unwanted sound or sound
produces unpleasant effects and discomfort on the
ears.
 Sound that is unwanted or disrupts one’s quality of life
is called as noise. When there is lot of noise in the
environment, it is termed as noise pollution.
 Sound becomes undesirable when it disturbs the
normal activities such as working, sleeping, and during
conversations
 It is an underrated environmental problem because of
the fact that we can’t see, smell, or taste it.
 World Health Organization stated that “Noise must be
recognized as a major threat to human well-being”
Sources of Noise Pollution
 Transportation systems are the main source of noise
pollution in urban areas.
 Construction of buildings, highways, and streets cause a lot
of noise, due to the usage of air compressors, bulldozers,
loaders, dump trucks, and pavement breakers.
 Industrial noise also adds to the already unfavorable state
of noise pollution.
 Loud speakers, plumbing, boilers, generators, air
conditioners, fans, and vacuum cleaners add to the existing
noise pollution.
Effects of noise pollution
 Generally, problems caused by noise pollution include
stress related illnesses, speech interference, hearing
loss, sleep disruption, and lost productivity.
 Rise in blood pressure
 Physical development of fetous.
 Reduce concentration.
 Causes serious mental disorders.
Remedial measures
 Planting trees
 Regular serving of automobiles.
 Building can be designed with suitable noise absorbing
materials for the walls, window and sealing
 Proper lubrication and maintains of machines.
 Workers should provided with ear plugs for hearing
protection.
 Factories and industries should located far from residential
area.
How to control noise pollution?
 The source of the noise must me reduced
 The path of transmission of sound must be stopped
and receiver of noise must be safe guarded.
 A general awareness programs to educate the people
must be done.
 Legal laws must be established and observed to
prevent noise pollution.
Role of individuals in preventing the
degradation of the quality of environment
 Reduce air pollution by driving less or by good driving
habits.
 Waste minimization.
 Educate citizens about wise use of water and water
resources.
 Recycling of Mobil phones.
 Sign up to renewable energy supplier.
 Use organic food and fertilizers.
 Buy cotton products such as clothes, bags and shoes in
ecofriendly way.
 Use safer chemicals in labs.
 Use rechargeable batteries and electronic items.
 Use less harmful detergents in your home and at work
place.
 Academic institutions should offer courses such as
environmental studies, management etc.
Thank you………………….
