Do you want to experience living together, in an environment where we can be total,
expand into being all that we are, share our gifts, appreciate each other and touch
each others hearts?

Welcome as a volunteer to Ängsbacka’s Summer Festivals
- Come meet & melt, work, enjoy & expand with us!

This is a place for us all to share more time and togetherness, create something fantastic
together, deepen our experience of living with an open heart and work for something we
believe in. Let this magic begin - apply now!
You are invited to take part in the preparation of the summer festivals and build its energy and
reality together with us. Your presence will add significantly. We offer you a summer you will never
forget, new fantastic friends, workshops and work experiences.

As a volunteer you work in a work team in a specific area according to your group schedule,
planned by your group coordinator. You join volunteer gatherings, sharings and work shifts and
spend the rest of your time experiencing the festival program, chilling with friends and letting
yourself be engulfed in the skies, forests and lakes surrounding Ängsbacka. You dedicate your
time and commitment, pay for food and accommodation, and receive access to the festival and
camp workshops, concerts, splendid vegetarian buffet, housing, body work, coaching – and the
  time of your life!

Magically, all this is a high on life experience – drugs and alcohol not allowed!

The earlier you apply – the more you support our planning and the more you can choose the
work area, sleeping place and price you prefer! If you want to spend more time with us during the
spring and summer, you are also most welcome to join our ÄLI leadership training (apply before
28th of Feb) or our work teams organizing the events and festivals at Ängsbacka. Contact me

Come meet & melt, work, enjoy & expand with us!
As a volunteer you are at Ängsbacka before and after the actual festivals take place. This
is called the camp periods. By contributing to the flowering festivals you get a natural place
and bonding with your volunteer friends as you work to build the festival and the festival
energy together, you welcome the guests as they arrive, celebrate together and gather the
practical parts and the energy when the festival is over.

During the camp periods a juicy volunteer program is offered in your free time, with work-
shops and meditations, dance and surprises.

Volunteering at Ängsbacka is an opportunity for us to fall into life, to create the things we
love the most, to serve from our heart, to challenge ourselves to combine relaxation, fun,
simplicity and clarity, with an intensity and efficiency in our work. We create an atmosphere
for many people to share, and see how it all comes spontaneously as we remind each other
to connect to the clarity always present within.
The Volunteer Camp Program Includes:
Dedicate:
• Working meditation 30 hours per week during camps & festivals, common morning
meetings, sharings etc. This makes the festival possible, we arrange all its practicalities,
enjoy and explore our challenges in working, and experience the bonding, co-creation and
friendship in our team. The work is at times physically and mentally demanding and we
commit to care for ourselves, others and our common space.
• Volunteer fee: covering part of the basic expenses of food and accommodation for our stay.
• Being a volunteer means committing to creating the festivals together. This means you
commit to stay the whole time period agreed upon and support ”the 12 guidelines for working
at Ängsbacka” with focus on clear heart-connected communication. This to settle the volunteer
crew, create a good atmosphere for the summer, time to clean up the area, experience the
energy building up before and landing after the festivals, and close the volunteer circles
together. (Find the guidelines on the last page in this PDF).
• Magically, all this is a high on life experience – drugs and alcohol not allowed!

Receive:
• Festival ticket: Free access to all the festivals- and camp workshops, concerts etc. during
your volunteer period at Ängsbacka.
• Access to volunteer coaches and the volunteer healing circle: trained coaches and body
workers who support your growth in your work at Ängsbacka as well as in your private life.
• Delicious Vegetarian Buffet and Accommodation.

Volunteering is for you who...
Volunteering is for you who long to be you, give your gifts, create festivals and inspire yourself
and others to truth and transformation, to openness, friendship and love. We work to build festi-
vals – a space for us to meet, to celebrate life, grow in awareness, connect to our life intentions,
relax together and create the world we long for. You will experience many feelings, thoughts and
sensations. You will feel rest and exhaustion, anger and sadness, happiness and inspiration.
You will give up – and give all you have got! You will be part of a bigger organic entity creating
something fantastic together!

The Ängsbacka atmosphere and the festival summer give you many opportunities to try out new
ways of living and ground the ways you value. We look for you who want to and dare to work
together in an intense environment, give into the common goals, care for yourself and others, be
yourself and share your unique qualities, genuine curiosity and creativity. We offer you a summer
you will never forget, friends, work experiences and workshops which opens and synchronizes
your heart mind and soul, good food and a community who is happy to support and share your
expansion!
Pass it forward – spread the word – invite your worlds!
If you find the Ängsbacka experience precious and think other people might too, don’t hesitate
to pass this info forward to people in your private and professional networks . E-mail, talk about
it and invite people also to the Facebook events – would love to see the webpage links on your
Facebook status at least once :) It changes lives!

Some work groups have special needs and welcome you with Ängsbacka experience and/or
special competence/training. To meet these needs there is a specific recruiting process with a
flexible framework concerning price and dates for areas such as construction (carpentry, elec-
tricity, plumbing etc), IT, social media marketing, photo&video, writing, sound & light, serving,
kitchen & dishes, child & youth care, etc. Committed people and people with training or Ängs-
backa experience are very valued, ask them to contact us. If you are interested to know more
about this, contact Pyret at: festivalcamp@angsbacka.se. Some information about this can
also be found in the list of special tasks further down in this PDF.
The festivals
There will be a full festival summer at Ängsbacka during June, July and August 2011, filled
with a diversity of workshops to spice up our lives and remind us of our true longings and
directions. The festivals at Ängsbacka attract thousands of people each year, from all around
the world, who meet and inspire each other to celebrate life, grow in awareness, connect to
our life intentions, relax together and create the world we long for!

The camps
To share even more time, co-creation and togetherness at Ängsbacka, we have the splen-
did opportunity to join the volunteer camps. You are invited to take part in the preparation
of the festivals and feeling how the atmosphere and energy builds up day by day. Your
presence will add significantly!

Making it happen
Ängsbacka’s festivals could not happen if it wasn’t for the incredible contribution from
a large number of volunteers that work to build the festivals together with our all-year-
around staff. The volunteer camp starts in early June and goes on until mid August. It is a
time of much fun, friendship, community, playfulness, new experiences - and work!

Volunteer work
As a volunteer you work in a work team in a specific area according to your group sched-
ule, planned by your group coordinator. You join volunteer gatherings, work shifts and
sharings and spend the rest of your time experiencing the festival program, chilling with
friends and letting yourself be engulfed in the skies, forests and lakes surrounding Ängs-
backa. You work 30 hours per week, so you have some time to participate in other activi-
ties, such as meditations, yoga, rest, open stage and a large variety of workshops. You
dedicate your time and commitment, pay parts of the basic expenses for food and ac-
commodation, and receive access to all the festival and camp workshops, concerts etc,
splendid vegetarian buffet, housing, coaching, body work – and the time of your life!
Many people say volunteering during the summer is the best festival of them all!

Work groups
Which work group you will work in we decide together before your arrival. We wish for you
to be in a work area where the practical needs and your energy, passion and experience
synchronizes. See list of work groups below and in the application form.

You will work in your work area and also do general work outside of the group from time
to time, such as raising tents, painting, building, kitchen work etc. Be prepared for anything.
Flexibility is necessary to support the synergy organized to build our festivals together.

Work group volunteer coordinators
Every work group has a coordinator. Every group also has practical support from a practical
work leader. The group coordinator makes sure the sharing, the group dynamics and the
information flow between festival organizers and the volunteers works well. If you have any
question about anything, the first thing to do is always: Talk to your group coordinator!
Time periods & payment - to step into commitment
To keep the energy and work routines up and running we ask you to come for whole camp peri-
ods. It creates a safe and lovely ground for all involved, instead of the restlessness of wondering
when we want to come and go, and the impractical reality of having people coming and going in
the work groups. Still we want to welcome all of you and if your dedication is on, but some days
are impossible, let us know why that is and we can make a plan. Typically, Ängsbacka wants 5
days notice if you cannot work as planned, except for emergencies. If you leave abruptly without
communicating with the volunteer coordinators, there is a 150 SEK/day fee to compensate for the
days you broke the agreement. If you have any special needs or need to be away, welcome to
plan it with your group coordinator and Pyret as much in advance as possible!

How we do it
Mindful work rather than Mindless meditation
Spirituality + Community + Working meditation = Synergy Magic Manifesting

To create the Ängsbacka festivals we have a fantastic staff- and coordinator crew who plan the
site practicalities, manifest and make the plans come true. To make it happen we all get into
intense days combining practical work, spiritual workshops and meeting friends – and we expe-
rience how these three elements can synchronize and enhance each other! We do our best to
ensure that the work is not overly heavy and that overtime does not occur but we ask you to be
flexible about the intensity coming alive to make it all happen!

Below is a description of Ängsbacka, the Working Meditation and the Sharing, to get a better idea
of what Ängsbacka is and the qualities and tools we use. We are clarifying the Ängsbacka way
of supporting our experiences: how the sharing, coaching, workshops and meditations create
a structure, in which we can connect to our core, feel everything and meet whatever is moving,
without losing our energy in shutdown, distraction or conflict – instead fall into our inherent natural
longing to interact lovingly with each other.

About Ängsbacka
The vision of Ängbacka is to be one of Europe’s leading meeting places for people who wish to
grow in consciousness and live with an open heart. Ängsbacka has various courses, retreats and
festivals all-year-round, as well as a leadership training for the coordinators leading the volunteer
work groups during the summer: Ängsbacka Leadership Intensive. The Ängsbacka festival sum-
mer is expanding every year. The first and still the biggest festival is the No Mind festival.

Ängsbacka is owned by an association in which anyone can become a member. Every year the
members meet for a summit to brainstorm about new ideas, elect persons to the board of the as-
sociation and set the aim for the next year. Ängsbacka is a dynamic place, where we can come as
volunteers all-year-round to find new expressions of our longing to manifest our projects, our cre-
ativity and truth. Ängsbacka invites new people continuously, to be part in creating this place!

”When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your
thoughts break their bonds, your mind transcends limitations, your conscious
expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world”
Language
We speak some Swedish at Ängsbacka, but meetings and workshops are held in English.
What ever language you speak, you are welcome!

“Working Meditation” at Ängsbacka
As a volunteer, you contribute by “working meditation”, a form of karma yoga. It is an oppor-
tunity for us to fall into life, to create the things we love, to serve from our heart, to challenge
ourselves to combine relaxation, fun, simplicity and clarity, with the intensity and efficiency in our
work. We work to create a place for people to meet and to see how our synergy comes sponta-
neously as we remind each other to connect to the clarity always present within.

The volunteers are the base for the festivals and the year-round space at Ängsbacka. As a
volunteer you take part in preparing for the festival and feeling how the atmosphere and energy
builds up day by day. You are invited to create a festival - a celebration of life, of meditation, of
friendships and of insights. The festivals and camps are great times for connecting and having a
good time together.

The working hours at Ängsbacka are referred to as “working meditation” to remind us that as we
are beautifying the workshop areas, preparing healthy food or turning the compost piles we may
stay mindful of our conscious breathing and the activity that we are doing -and let it connect us
to life. Normally we are taught that in order to succeed, we have to struggle. Somehow though,
the more we struggle the more tense we can become. The alternative approach we would like to
offer is to remind us that in order to give the best to each moment, and to receive the most from
each moment, we need to be present. And to be present, we need to be relaxed. As the story
by Joseph Campbell once told: Three men are working together on the same job. An observer
asks:

“What are you doing?” The first answers “I am working.” The second answers “I am laying bricks.” The third
answers “I am building a cathedral”.

Its not so much about what we do, but how we do it. That can change the happening from just
“work” to an opportunity to “live” - to see how any experience in life, whether “at work” or “at
play” can be an opportunity to experience, transform and expand!

“Sharing & Meditation” at Ängsbacka
Sharing and meditation are two basic ingredients at Ängsbacka. The festival experience is often
intense and during work we need to focus and give a lot to the task at hand. Meditation is one
way to gather yourself to find your inner direction, relaxation, intention and energy source. There
are meditation opportunities such as ‘the silent sitting’ every day at Ängsbacka. All working
groups also have “Sharing” once every day. Sharing is a key element in the Ängsbacka way of
life and gives everyone the opportunity to share their emotions and reflections. Sharing gives
clarity and increases cohesion between all of us who are here. Sharing gives you the opportu-
nity to sit in a circle with your group and share “where you are right now”, to connect in a place
where nobody needs to be or do anything , to open up, come close to each other in a genuine
way, and receive what you need to feel good.

“If we base our communication in honesty and listening, we will be able to handle
any situation in a creative way.”

The camp intentions
The camp periods are a time for volunteers and staff to come together to get to know
each other and build up the festivals. All festival camps inspire towards the possibility of
“no-mind-living”. To create a space to connect to the outer intensity and the inner qui-
etude, clarity, presence and love beyond thoughts, feelings and mental constructions. In
this space, we can experience the sensation of the reality, experience all our feelings, lov-
ing and living in all that happens in each present moment – instead of being limited by our
stories of the past and the future. All seeking can come to an end in the absolute fulfill-
ment of the Now.

you somehow want to share this experience, so they can check out if they are interested in
the magic we love! E-mail, talk about it and also invite people to the facebook events – would
love to see the webpage links on your Facebook status at least once :) It changes lives!

Guidelines for living and working together at Ängsbacka
These guidelines are a statement of how we aspire to live and work together at Ängsbacka.
They are a tool for the transformation of ourselves, the way we relate to each other and the
environment. Each member of the Ängsbacka community, and all staff employed at Ängs-
backa are asked to sign this document, showing their willingness to follow these guidelines
to the best of their ability.

1. Service – I aspire to serve others, our planet and its inhabitants. I recognize that I must also
serve myself in order to practice this effectively.

2. Personal Growth - I strive toward becoming more conscious of my personal attitudes and
behaviour patterns and I am willing to change those which are harmful to myself and others.

3. Reflection - I recognize that what I see outside myself—any criticism irritation or apprecia-
tion—may also be reflections of what is inside me. I am willing to look at these within myself
before reflecting them onto others.

4. Responsibility - I take responsibility for my actions, my mistakes and for any spiritual, envi-
ronmental and human effects these might have. I am willing to listen to constructive criticism
and to offer constructive feed-back to others in a caring and appropriate fashion. I am willing
to take action to resolve conflicts and to make amends when my actions have hurt others.

5. Respect – I wholeheartedly commit to respect other people; their differences, their views,
origins, backgrounds, issues and their property. I will show respect and care for the environ-
ment, striving to minimize my negative impact. I agree to respect communal areas and other
people’s working areas, to leave beauty and order around me.
6. Non-violence - I will not forcefully inflict my attitudes or desires (including sexual) on oth-
ers. I agree to step in and stop, or at least say that I would like stopped, actions (including
manipulation or intimidation) that I feel may be abusive to myself or others in the community.

7. Communication - I will be clear and honest in my communication and open-hearted in my
listening. In public and in private I will not speak in a way that maligns or demeans others and
myself. I will talk to people rather than about them.

8. Resolution – I agree to make every effort to resolve disputes. At any time in a dispute I may
call for an advocate, friend, independent observer or mediator to be present.

9. Co-operation - I recognise that I live in a community and that it functions only through my
co-operation and my good communication. I agree to communicate my decisions clearly to
those who may be affected and to consider their views carefully and respectfully. I recognize
that others may make decisions which affect me and I agree to respect the care, integrity and
wisdom that they have put into their decision-making process.

10. Agreements - I commit to keeping agreements I have made and not to break or try to
evade any laws, rules, or guidelines; to have honest dealings with all bodies and to pay all
charges and dues owing.

11. Spiritual Practice - I will take an active part in the spiritual practice of the community,
(such as meditations, morning meetings, sharing, forum, etc.) and will in my daily work strive
to work for the greatest good.

12. Support – I am willing to strive toward upholding and following the above guidelines in my
life and work. I acknowledge that this asks for considerable effort and personal transforma-
tion. Bearing this in mind I will ask for support and help from others when I need such and I
remain open to be approached by others who may be in need of support.

I am aware that we are all doing our best and that we may stumble many times along the way.
I therefore agree to adopt an attitude of loving acceptance and understanding toward both
myself and my fellow community members, to remain humble and to avoid judging myself
and others.

Together we strive to uphold these guidelines and together we celebrate both our
difficulties and our success!

Welcome as a volunteer to Ängsbacka’s Summer Festivals - Come meet & melt, work, enjoy & expand with us! This is a place for us all to share more time and togetherness, create something fantastic together, deepen our experience of living with an open heart and work for something we believe in. Let this magic begin - apply now!
  • 2. You are invited to take part in the preparation of the summer festivals and build its energy and reality together with us. Your presence will add significantly. We offer you a summer you will never forget, new fantastic friends, workshops and work experiences. As a volunteer you work in a work team in a specific area according to your group schedule, planned by your group coordinator. You join volunteer gatherings, sharings and work shifts and spend the rest of your time experiencing the festival program, chilling with friends and letting yourself be engulfed in the skies, forests and lakes surrounding Ängsbacka. You dedicate your time and commitment, pay for food and accommodation, and receive access to the festival and camp workshops, concerts, splendid vegetarian buffet, housing, body work, coaching – and the time of your life! Magically, all this is a high on life experience – drugs and alcohol not allowed! The earlier you apply – the more you support our planning and the more you can choose the work area, sleeping place and price you prefer! If you want to spend more time with us during the spring and summer, you are also most welcome to join our ÄLI leadership training (apply before 28th of Feb) or our work teams organizing the events and festivals at Ängsbacka. Contact me to talk about what you wanna be part of and share your ideas on what qualities, workshops and vibes to include in the Ängsbacka experience! As a volunteer you are at Ängsbacka before and after the actual festivals take place. This is called the camp periods. By contributing to the flowering festivals you get a natural place and bonding with your volunteer friends as you work to build the festival and the festival energy together, you welcome the guests as they arrive, celebrate together and gather the practical parts and the energy when the festival is over. During the camp periods a juicy volunteer program is offered in your free time, with work- shops and meditations, dance and surprises. Volunteering at Ängsbacka is an opportunity for us to fall into life, to create the things we love the most, to serve from our heart, to challenge ourselves to combine relaxation, fun, simplicity and clarity, with an intensity and efficiency in our work. We create an atmosphere for many people to share, and see how it all comes spontaneously as we remind each other to connect to the clarity always present within.
  • 4. The Volunteer Camp Program Includes: Dedicate: • Working meditation 30 hours per week during camps & festivals, common morning meetings, sharings etc. This makes the festival possible, we arrange all its practicalities, enjoy and explore our challenges in working, and experience the bonding, co-creation and friendship in our team. The work is at times physically and mentally demanding and we commit to care for ourselves, others and our common space. • Volunteer fee: covering part of the basic expenses of food and accommodation for our stay. • Being a volunteer means committing to creating the festivals together. This means you commit to stay the whole time period agreed upon and support ”the 12 guidelines for working at Ängsbacka” with focus on clear heart-connected communication. This to settle the volunteer crew, create a good atmosphere for the summer, time to clean up the area, experience the energy building up before and landing after the festivals, and close the volunteer circles together. (Find the guidelines on the last page in this PDF). • Magically, all this is a high on life experience – drugs and alcohol not allowed! Receive: • Festival ticket: Free access to all the festivals- and camp workshops, concerts etc. during your volunteer period at Ängsbacka. • Access to volunteer coaches and the volunteer healing circle: trained coaches and body workers who support your growth in your work at Ängsbacka as well as in your private life. • Delicious Vegetarian Buffet and Accommodation. Volunteering is for you who... We work to build festi- vals – a space for us to meet, to celebrate life, grow in awareness, connect to our life intentions, relax together and create the world we long for. You will experience many feelings, thoughts and sensations. You will feel rest and exhaustion, anger and sadness, happiness and inspiration. You will give up – and give all you have got! • 7. The festivals There will be a full festival summer at Ängsbacka during June, July and August 2011, filled with a diversity of workshops to spice up our lives and remind us of our true longings and directions. The festivals at Ängsbacka attract thousands of people each year, from all around the world, who meet and inspire each other to celebrate life, grow in awareness, connect to our life intentions, relax together and create the world we long for! The camps To share even more time, co-creation and togetherness at Ängsbacka, we have the splen- did opportunity to join the volunteer camps. You are invited to take part in the preparation of the festivals and feeling how the atmosphere and energy builds up day by day. Your presence will add significantly! Making it happen Ängsbacka’s festivals could not happen if it wasn’t for the incredible contribution from a large number of volunteers that work to build the festivals together with our all-year- around staff. The volunteer camp starts in early June and goes on until mid August. It is a time of much fun, friendship, community, playfulness, new experiences - and work! Volunteer work As a volunteer you work in a work team in a specific area according to your group sched- ule, planned by your group coordinator. You join volunteer gatherings, work shifts and sharings and spend the rest of your time experiencing the festival program, chilling with friends and letting yourself be engulfed in the skies, forests and lakes surrounding Ängs- backa. You work 30 hours per week, so you have some time to participate in other activi- ties, such as meditations, yoga, rest, open stage and a large variety of workshops. You dedicate your time and commitment, pay parts of the basic expenses for food and ac- commodation, and receive access to all the festival and camp workshops, concerts etc, splendid vegetarian buffet, housing, coaching, body work – and the time of your life! Many people say volunteering during the summer is the best festival of them all! Work groups Which work group you will work in we decide together before your arrival. We wish for you to be in a work area where the practical needs and your energy, passion and experience synchronizes. See list of work groups below and in the application form. You will work in your work area and also do general work outside of the group from time to time, such as raising tents, painting, building, kitchen work etc. Be prepared for anything. Flexibility is necessary to support the synergy organized to build our festivals together. Work group volunteer coordinators Every work group has a coordinator. Every group also has practical support from a practical work leader. The group coordinator makes sure the sharing, the group dynamics and the information flow between festival organizers and the volunteers works well. If you have any question about anything, the first thing to do is always: Talk to your group coordinator!
  • 8. Time periods & payment - to step into commitment To keep the energy and work routines up and running we ask you to come for whole camp peri- ods. It creates a safe and lovely ground for all involved, instead of the restlessness of wondering when we want to come and go, and the impractical reality of having people coming and going in the work groups. Still we want to welcome all of you and if your dedication is on, but some days are impossible, let us know why that is and we can make a plan. Typically, Ängsbacka wants 5 days notice if you cannot work as planned, except for emergencies. If you leave abruptly without communicating with the volunteer coordinators, there is a 150 SEK/day fee to compensate for the days you broke the agreement. If you have any special needs or need to be away, welcome to plan it with your group coordinator and Pyret as much in advance as possible! How we do it Mindful work rather than Mindless meditation Spirituality + Community + Working meditation = Synergy Magic Manifesting To create the Ängsbacka festivals we have a fantastic staff- and coordinator crew who plan the site practicalities, manifest and make the plans come true. To make it happen we all get into intense days combining practical work, spiritual workshops and meeting friends – and we expe- rience how these three elements can synchronize and enhance each other! We do our best to ensure that the work is not overly heavy and that overtime does not occur but we ask you to be flexible about the intensity coming alive to make it all happen! Below is a description of Ängsbacka, the Working Meditation and the Sharing, to get a better idea of what Ängsbacka is and the qualities and tools we use. We are clarifying the Ängsbacka way of supporting our experiences: how the sharing, coaching, workshops and meditations create a structure, in which we can connect to our core, feel everything and meet whatever is moving, without losing our energy in shutdown, distraction or conflict – instead fall into our inherent natural longing to interact lovingly with each other. About Ängsbacka The vision of Ängbacka is to be one of Europe’s leading meeting places for people who wish to grow in consciousness and live with an open heart. Ängsbacka has various courses, retreats and festivals all-year-round, as well as a leadership training for the coordinators leading the volunteer work groups during the summer: Ängsbacka Leadership Intensive. The Ängsbacka festival sum- mer is expanding every year. The first and still the biggest festival is the No Mind festival. Ängsbacka is owned by an association in which anyone can become a member. Every year the members meet for a summit to brainstorm about new ideas, elect persons to the board of the as- sociation and set the aim for the next year. Ängsbacka is a dynamic place, where we can come as volunteers all-year-round to find new expressions of our longing to manifest our projects, our cre- ativity and truth. Ängsbacka invites new people continuously, to be part in creating this place! ”When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds, your mind transcends limitations, your conscious expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world”
  • 9. Language We speak some Swedish at Ängsbacka, but meetings and workshops are held in English. What ever language you speak, you are welcome! “Working Meditation” at Ängsbacka As a volunteer, you contribute by “working meditation”, a form of karma yoga. It is an oppor- tunity for us to fall into life, to create the things we love, to serve from our heart, to challenge ourselves to combine relaxation, fun, simplicity and clarity, with the intensity and efficiency in our work. We work to create a place for people to meet and to see how our synergy comes sponta- neously as we remind each other to connect to the clarity always present within. The volunteers are the base for the festivals and the year-round space at Ängsbacka. As a volunteer you take part in preparing for the festival and feeling how the atmosphere and energy builds up day by day. You are invited to create a festival - a celebration of life, of meditation, of friendships and of insights. The festivals and camps are great times for connecting and having a good time together. The working hours at Ängsbacka are referred to as “working meditation” to remind us that as we are beautifying the workshop areas, preparing healthy food or turning the compost piles we may stay mindful of our conscious breathing and the activity that we are doing -and let it connect us to life. Normally we are taught that in order to succeed, we have to struggle. Somehow though, the more we struggle the more tense we can become. The alternative approach we would like to offer is to remind us that in order to give the best to each moment, and to receive the most from each moment, we need to be present. And to be present, we need to be relaxed. As the story by Joseph Campbell once told: Three men are working together on the same job. An observer asks: “What are you doing?” The first answers “I am working.” The second answers “I am laying bricks.” The third answers “I am building a cathedral”. Its not so much about what we do, but how we do it. That can change the happening from just “work” to an opportunity to “live” - to see how any experience in life, whether “at work” or “at play” can be an opportunity to experience, transform and expand! “Sharing & Meditation” at Ängsbacka Sharing and meditation are two basic ingredients at Ängsbacka. The festival experience is often intense and during work we need to focus and give a lot to the task at hand. Meditation is one way to gather yourself to find your inner direction, relaxation, intention and energy source. There are meditation opportunities such as ‘the silent sitting’ every day at Ängsbacka. All working groups also have “Sharing” once every day. Sharing is a key element in the Ängsbacka way of life and gives everyone the opportunity to share their emotions and reflections. Sharing gives clarity and increases cohesion between all of us who are here. Sharing gives you the opportu- nity to sit in a circle with your group and share “where you are right now”, to connect in a place where nobody needs to be or do anything , to open up, come close to each other in a genuine way, and receive what you need to feel good. “If we base our communication in honesty and listening, we will be able to handle any situation in a creative way.”

They are a tool for the transformation of ourselves, the way we relate to each other and the environment. Each member of the Ängsbacka community, and all staff employed at Ängs- backa are asked to sign this document, showing their willingness to follow these guidelines to the best of their ability. 1. Service – I aspire to serve others, our planet and its inhabitants. I recognize that I must also serve myself in order to practice this effectively. 2. Personal Growth - I strive toward becoming more conscious of my personal attitudes and behaviour patterns and I am willing to change those which are harmful to myself and others. 3. Reflection - I recognize that what I see outside myself—any criticism irritation or apprecia- tion—may also be reflections of what is inside me. I am willing to look at these within myself before reflecting them onto others. 4. Responsibility - I take responsibility for my actions, my mistakes and for any spiritual, envi- ronmental and human effects these might have. I am willing to listen to constructive criticism and to offer constructive feed-back to others in a caring and appropriate fashion. I am willing to take action to resolve conflicts and to make amends when my actions have hurt others. 5. Respect – I wholeheartedly commit to respect other people; their differences, their views, origins, backgrounds, issues and their property. I will show respect and care for the environ- ment, striving to minimize my negative impact. I agree to respect communal areas and other people’s working areas, to leave beauty and order around me.
  • 19. 6. Non-violence - I will not forcefully inflict my attitudes or desires (including sexual) on oth- ers. I agree to step in and stop, or at least say that I would like stopped, actions (including manipulation or intimidation) that I feel may be abusive to myself or others in the community. 7. Communication - I will be clear and honest in my communication and open-hearted in my listening. In public and in private I will not speak in a way that maligns or demeans others and myself. I will talk to people rather than about them. 8. Resolution – I agree to make every effort to resolve disputes. At any time in a dispute I may call for an advocate, friend, independent observer or mediator to be present. 9. Co-operation - I recognise that I live in a community and that it functions only through my co-operation and my good communication. I agree to communicate my decisions clearly to those who may be affected and to consider their views carefully and respectfully. I recognize that others may make decisions which affect me and I agree to respect the care, integrity and wisdom that they have put into their decision-making process. 10. Agreements - I commit to keeping agreements I have made and not to break or try to evade any laws, rules, or guidelines; to have honest dealings with all bodies and to pay all charges and dues owing. 11. Spiritual Practice - I will take an active part in the spiritual practice of the community, (such as meditations, morning meetings, sharing, forum, etc.) and will in my daily work strive to work for the greatest good. 12. Support – I am willing to strive toward upholding and following the above guidelines in my life and work. I acknowledge that this asks for considerable effort and personal transforma- tion. Bearing this in mind I will ask for support and help from others when I need such and I remain open to be approached by others who may be in need of support. I am aware that we are all doing our best and that we may stumble many times along the way. I therefore agree to adopt an attitude of loving acceptance and understanding toward both myself and my fellow community members, to remain humble and to avoid judging myself and others. Together we strive to uphold these guidelines and together we celebrate both our difficulties and our success!
