This document discusses how various geometric shapes and concepts appear in different sports. 2. Point Definition Point- An undefined term in geometry, it names the location and has no size. Baseball Diamond Base This base names the location of the player.

3. Line (Segment) Definition Line- An undefined term in geometry, a line is a straight path that has no thickness and extends forever. Swimming Lane Rope In swimming, lane ropes are straight lines to keep swimmers in their own lanes.

4. Plane Definition Plane- An undefined term in geometry, it is a flat surface that has no thickness and extends forever. Baseball Field A baseball field is a flat surface that is used to play baseball on.

5. Angle Definition Angle- A figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint. Cheerleaders Cheerleaders make all kinds of angles with their arms, legs, and as a team.

6. Perpendicular Lines Definition Perpendicular Lines- Lines that intersect at ninety degree angles. Field Goal Posts Field goal posts form two sets of perpendicular lines.

7. Parallel Lines Definition Parallel Lines- Lines in the same plane that do not intersect. Basketball Court Side Lines On a basketball court, the two side lines are two lines that lie in the same plane that never intersect.

8. Triangle Definition Triangle- A three-sided polygon. Billiards Rack In billiards, the rack is a triangular shaped three-sided polygon.

9. Right Triangle Definition Right Triangle- A triangle with one right angle. Skateboarding Ramps In skateboarding, the sides of many ramps are right triangles.

10. Pentagon Definition Pentagon- A five-sided polygon. Soccer Ball On a soccer ball, the black designs are five sided polygons.

11. Hexagon Definition Hexagon- A six-sided polygon. Soccer Ball On a soccer ball, the white designs are six-sided polygons.

12. Square Definition Square- A quadrilateral with four congruent sides and four right angles. Swimming Block In swimming, the block that the swimmers start off of is a square shaped figure with four right angles and four congruent sides.

13. Rectangle Definition Rectangle- A quadrilateral with four right angles. Diving Board In diving, a diving board is a rectangular shaped quadrilateral with four right angles.

14. Trapezoid Definition Trapezoid- A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. Soccer Goal In soccer, a soccer goal is shaped like a trapezoid and has exactly one pair of parallel sides.

15. Parallelogram Definition Parallelogram- A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. Track Hurdle In track, a hurdle is a quadrilateral with exactly two pairs of parallel sides.

16. Circle Definition Circle- The set of points in a plane that are a fixed distance from a given point called the center of the circle. Nascar Tire In nascar, a tire is in the shape of a circle.

17. Cylinder Definition Cylinder- A three dimensional figure with two parallel congruent circular bases and a curved lateral surface that connects the bases. Baseball Bat In baseball, a bat is a three dimensional figure with two parallel congruent circular bases.

18. Sphere Definition Sphere- The set of points in space that are a fixed distance from a given point called the center of the sphere. Tennis Ball In tennis, a tennis ball is a spherical shaped object.

19. Pyramid Definition Pyramid- A polyhedron formed by a polygonal base and triangular lateral faces that meet at a common vertex. Cheerleader Pyramid In cheerleading, a pyramid is formed by several cheerleaders stacked on top of one another.

20. Cone Definition Cone- A three-dimensional figure with a circular base and a curved lateral surface that connects the base to a point called the vertex. Cheerleading Cone In cheerleading, the cone they use to project their voices has a curved lateral surface that connects the base to the vertex.

21. Cube Definition Cube- A prism with six square faces. All-Around Scoreboard In some sports like hockey and basketball, there is an all-around scoreboard that is a prism with six square faces.
