1. BATH IN FASHION 2011 SPOTLIGHTS THE CITY’S FASHION CREDENTIALS
Bath’s big fashion event, Bath in Fashion, takes place Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th
March 2011. The event spotlights the strength of on-trend fashion the city offers with its
great independent designer boutiques and strong high street names; fashion heritage
and a growing reputation as a hotbed for young designers. So gather your girlfriends for
a fun time in the spa city.
Now into its second year, Bath in Fashion events can be found across the city in
dramatic and unique locations. Where else can you catch models parading on 2000
year old pavements; only at the Roman Baths? The programme is designed to
celebrate all aspects of the industry with appeal beyond the catwalk including fashion
talks and exhibitions; workshops; designer fashion trails around Bath’s independent
boutiques, fashion film screenings and swishing events, always popular when times are
tough. Retailers city-wide will be getting involved with exclusive in-store offers and
competitions, as well as staging live mannequins in store windows throughout the
streets of Bath.
Bath is steeped in fashion heritage, with the Georgians flocking to the city for their
fashion fix whilst coming bang up-to- date, Milsom Street was awarded the title of
‘Britain’s Best Fashion Street’ in the 2010 Google Street View Awards. Bath’s fashion
credentials remain as strong as ever.
Bath houses one of the world’s leading collections of contemporary and historical dress
at its Fashion Museum in the grand Assembly Rooms and Manager, Rosemary Harden
2. is programmed for a talk with local fashion guru Iain R. Webb. The ‘Marilyn, Hollywood
Icon’ exhibition at the American Museum in Britain displays a collection of the screen
goddess’s gowns, glamour from a bygone era. Bath Spa University’s Fashion faculty is
gaining recognition for its design courses and regularly features in Graduate Fashion
Week. Students from the University are involved in the organising group for Bath in
Fashion 2011 to ensure the festival champions cutting edge fashions and shows
relevant to all audiences.
Bath in Fashion 2011 is a Future Bath Plus initiative to develop and maintain Bath’s
status as a fashionable shopping destination attracting visitors from near and far who
appreciate the superb variety of shopping as well as everything else the city has to
offer.
