integration of functionalities (for personal use) in a single device, and
becoming in next years the preferential Internet device against desktops.

Rapid and consistent mobile broadband consolidation, air interface

devices will bring a tsunami of IP data traffic. In the same time, high
competition with lack technology barrier force a rapid service lifecycle
and new services becomes mature quickly, with low profitability.

► 3GPP vision for voice service support in LTE
► Needs Applications Servers for Service Centralization and Continuity (SCC), Telephony
► The service continuity and handover are guaranteed by SR-VCC (Single Radio Voice Call

► Based on Generic Access Network interface defined in 3GPP TS 43.318 and 23.879 for CS
  services over PS domain.
► Not totally standardized, and there is no formal references in 3GPP, however there is specific
forum, with set of operators and suppliers participation: VoLGA Forum.
► Needs a specific network element: VANC (VoLGA Access Network Controller).
► Supports handover, but it needs huge integration job

Concerns for VoLTE

► Interconnection (ITX)
    – It is imperative to standardize a technical model to be followed by
operators for network integration and interconnection:
        • User and control plan protocols
        • Visited and home network models
        • QoS
        • Service transparency
    – GSMA is working in a set of recommendations that are being
      synthesized in IR.34 and IR.88.
    – And in Brasil? And in Latin America?

► Roaming
    – It is important to create business models in order to be consistent with
      financial and revenue sharing premises;
    – GSMA created an interconnection model called IPX (IP eXchange), GRX
      successor, for IP, VoIP and IMS interconnection services;

► MMTel is a global standard, specified in 3GPPTS 22.173
(Stage 1) and 24.173 (Stage 3) for real time multimedia
  communications.

► Establishes IMS service requirements for legacy CS domain
  services and ETSI TISPAN.

► Provides, beyond CS Domain simulated basic and
supplementary services, the following Internet services:
   – Chat: text message delivery
   – Speech conversation
   – Video communications
   – File (pictures, video clips, data files etc.) transfer
   – Point to point and point to multi-point
       communications
   – Dynamic session add-on and removal
   – Presence-enabled address book
   – Terminal capability adaptation
   – Location services
► As standard, allows roaming between operators.

Conclusions
► Although MBB is consolidating and in will be the preferable Internet access, voice services
still represents the most important part of revenue.

► LTE provides high throughput with low latency that is excellent for data services, but it
represents 10 times more spectrum efficiency than GSM for voice transport.

► The operators are still intensively investing in network infrastructure and new band licenses
in order to follow continuous market anxiety for more throughput. That enables other
competitors beyond operator control from new Web Service industry.

► IMS is the most impressive and complete framework that allows operator to offer
differentiated services, controlled by network, guarantying customer service experience and
  investment value protection.

► Besides, IMS will enable the VoIP over LTE technology, taking advantage of high spectrum
efficiency, guarantying the user level experience and operator business premises.

► IMS does not only enable the multimedia services (such as VoLTE, MMTEL and ICS), but it is
one of the most powerful tool for capturing opportunities and any service lifecycle stage
(PCC): Rating and charging services for developing compelling and competitive revenue
  models.

► Interconnection and roaming technical and business model are pragmatic open issues that
must be solved in next years.

Diretoria de Engenharia e Operações – Planejamento Técnico

  • 22. Conclusions ► Although MBB is consolidating and in will be the preferable Internet access, voice services still represents the most important part of revenue. ► LTE provides high throughput with low latency that is excellent for data services, but it represents 10 times more spectrum efficiency than GSM for voice transport. ► The operators are still intensively investing in network infrastructure and new band licenses in order to follow continuous market anxiety for more throughput. That enables other competitors beyond operator control from new Web Service industry. ► IMS is the most impressive and complete framework that allows operator to offer differentiated services, controlled by network, guarantying customer service experience and investment value protection. ► Besides, IMS will enable the VoIP over LTE technology, taking advantage of high spectrum efficiency, guarantying the user level experience and operator business premises. ► IMS does not only enable the multimedia services (such as VoLTE, MMTEL and ICS), but it is one of the most powerful tool for capturing opportunities and any service lifecycle stage (PCC): Rating and charging services for developing compelling and competitive revenue models. ► Interconnection and roaming technical and business model are pragmatic open issues that must be solved in next years.
