3. ORIGIN OF THE RESEARCH PROBLEM
LITERATURE REVIEW
• Several news about changes in Powai Lake
• Water: Unfit for drinking
Powai Lake shows signs of
deterioration
4. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
• To conduct a change detection study for the study area from the year
2000 to 2014 using Google Earth Imageries
• To identify the changes and divide them into positive and negative
changes
• To identify the reasons for the changes and recommend solutions for
the negative changes.
5. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
• Ground trothing could not be undertaken due to areal
extent
• Socio-economic survey of the surrounding area could not
be undertaken due to time constraint
• Micro level analysis has not been undertaken

9. CONCLUSION
• The area under study is developing day by day, but, with a negative
impact on the environment.
• The lake is maintained to a certain level, but, needs more care.
• Overall, the area has improved, but needs more care and
monitoring.
10. RECOMMENDATIONS
• Rigid lake Conservation Program
• Continuous monitoring
• THE COMPENSATORY AFFORESTATION FUND BILL, 2008
• Regular check on the number of species of flora and fauna
• Angling should be carried on in an eco-friendly manner
• Tourists must be made aware of their responsibilities
• Lastly, the local residents can take up community planned actions and
steps to prevent the lake from deterioration in a sustainable manner.
