1. In order to find more information about the shots and use of costumes and other elements within music videos I decided to find the shots used by The Saturdays in a variety of their music videos. I carried out this activity because to get a high grade in my media I know within my music video you have to use a huge variety of different camera shots and angles and the best way for me to find out what really works and attracts an audience was to watch and pick put useful ideas! <br />The Saturdays – Higher <br />These three shots above are the opening shots to their video Higher. The scene is set within a car with all the girls together. The first shot is a close up of Vanessa singing her lyric. I like the shot because it is from the side of the car looking in on three of the girls sat in the back not just the one girl who is singing. Within this scene they seem to use close up shots a lot. The second screen grab here is taken from the side once again to see the next girl singing however you can now see all the girls in the car. The last shot I really like because it’s from the front of the car and as you can see the scenery outside around them this makes the scene all the more realistic. <br />This is a close up shot of the feet of the girls as they step out of the car. Shots like these help make the video have variety and not get boring. If the camera was just focused on the girls singing all the time the video would not really flow in terms of having a storyline and also the audience would most likely get sick of seeing them! <br />The two shots are taken from behind the girl’s head’s and in front of their legs. The camera at both times scans across carrying out a ‘pan’ movement. The camera goes from right to left across the screen when behind the girls showing their hands reach over one another and then from right to left again when showing them all cross their legs one after the other. I found this shot really interesting as it was on going not a selection of shots put together it was like they were being filmed more realistically. <br />Here they have used an establishing shot showing the girls dancing all together across the road and also an over head show which works really well as it seems to be showing the shot through someone’s eyes. For example it could be people from the house above looking down on the girls dancing as they have caught peoples attention. <br />
