Location Shots
In total 8 locations will be used to shoot the film. The first location used will
be a street that leads onto an underpass were the main character stumbles
across the murderer. 2 locations will need to used for the residence of the
main character as she moves house and the 2 houses will be shown in the
movie. Another location will need to be used to for the murderers
residence although only interiors will be shown of this location. Other
various outdoor locations will also be shown.
Location 1,2 and 3: Path outside Oakgrove school
This location will be used as it would be
convenient for everyone to get to and can still
look effective in the trailer. I would make sure that
when shooting, I shoot facing away from the
school so that the shots look more authentic. The
location would be used right at the beginning of
the trailer where Mel discovers the Murderer
providing both the path for Mel to walk down
while also providing the underpass for the murder
to happen.
The path itself when in the dark and when no one
is on it, looks quite isolated and with the lighting
from the street lights, will give the audience a
sense of danger. The vegetation around the path
gives a natural feel but may also suggest that
something is hidden. With isolated paths being
used often in thrillers to build up a sense of
danger, the audience will link the trailer to the
thriller genre.
We will use a second path that is located further
down later on in the trailer to make it look like
Mel is in a different place.
Location 4 and 5: House
The house will belong to once of the actors so
that we can have access to it. When leaving
initially, the back door will be used and when we
need it to look like another house, the exterior
will be used therefore the same house can be
used for both scenes.
Having the house helps the audience relate to the
character as it is something that everyone has and
with the murderer phoning the home phone, may
make people think that their own homes are not
safe.
Houses represent a place a safety and well being
therefore misleading the audience into thinking
that Mel, the main character, is safe.
Having the murderer phone the home phone in
the last scene shows that the house is in fact not
safe and is therefore taking away their false feel
of comfort.
When someone is home, it is often when
someone is their most comfortable and relaxed
but it also makes someone their most vulnerable.
Location 6:Drama studio, Oakgrove School
Using the drama studio means that the lighting
can be manipulated easily and therefore can
make sure that the scene will have the best
atmosphere.
The scenes that will be shot in here will be both
the short fight scene and the scene where Mel is
tied to a chair.
The room is very dark which again helps to create
the mood for the scenes. It is also supposed to be
a room owned my the murderer and by having it
dark builds up a sense of danger and suspense,
hinting at what he is going to do to the main
character.
A lot of scenes in thriller movies are often shot in
the dark therefore the audience will link the
darkness to the genre of the film.
This location stands out against all the other ones
as the other locations used are places that the
audience have been around and experienced and
this room is not. This shows them that what is
about to happen is something out of the ordinary.
Location 7:sixth form locations, Oakgrove School
When Mel is remembering what she is going to
leave behind before she runs away, she has flash
backs to happy times at school with her friends.
The scenes will therefore be shot during the day
time and in bright lighting to show the happiness
she was feeling and to contrast with the darkness
of the other scenes.
Locations such as the common room, hallways,
canteen ect, will be used as these are locations
that audience members should be able to relate
to , remember their own happiness and therefore
empathise with what Mel is feeling when she is
leaving it all behind.
School would be a normal occurrence to Mel and
by having the flashbacks, gives the audience a
glimpse of what her normal day to day life would
be like. It is also somewhere where people usually
feel safe which will contrast with what else is
shown in the trailer.
