These pictures are part of my fine art portfolio series, Comforts of Home . The disquieting panoramas examine the living spaces of occupants who may return at any moment. They are unsettling spaces – not meant for habitation. Planes and perspective are somewhat distorted as in a dream. There is a precarious balance between inside and outside space intruding on each other. As with a stage set or movie, there is impending activity. Time becomes an active element in this series as the viewer wanders around uncovering a history.
The places do not wholly exist as presented. They are digitally assembled from over thirty years of my slide and digital images. The varied sources, lenses and mixed lighting contribute to the feeling that something isn’t as real as we first thought.
