2. One
band I found with a similar indie/rock
genre was a band called ‘Interpol’. They
are an all-male band that are similar in
style to our band. The album covers I
found revolve mainly around the ‘survival
of the fittest’ theory, shown through
predation of animals.
Interpol
3. Interpol
I really like how the picture is somehow
graceful and looks aged but the cover is
something violent. I think we will take
influence from this when we create our CD
cover.
4. The
Coral are similar to our band, instead
with a slightly more indie feel. The album
covers I researched varied from very
bright and colourful to very dark and
sombre.
The Coral
5. The Coral
These album covers vary greatly, from bright
and colourful with an old-fashioned feel to dark,
brutal and in some ways quite scary. I like both
of these album covers and I feel that with our
band we could choose either a bright or dark
album cover. I think with ours we will go for
something with multiple meanings so
something probably more like the one on the
left.
6. Supergrass
are an old-fashioned band
with a quirky rock style. They thrive on
being seen as strange and peculiar. They
formed in the era of punk and carried the
sound forward into the 21st century.
Supergrass
7. Both albums have the bands faces covered partly in shadow and
none of the band members are looking directly at the camera
which helps contribute to the bands star image of being mysterious
and peculiar. This fits with their genre of music. The album on the
left has a blue theme with could symbolise unhappiness or deep
thought. The album on the right makes good use of the contrast
between white and black, symbolising good and evil.
Supergrass
8. Queens
of the Stone Age are a popular
rock band that have been established for
many years. They have a very similar
sound to our band.
Queens of the Stone Age
9. I really like both of these album covers and I’d like to take inspiration
from both of them. I really like the consistency of the gothic writing,
which fits with their genre of music. Both have very bold, stark
colours, which take up the majority of the cover. The cover on the
left could symbolise blood, evil or the devil which also fits with the
trident weapon shown on the front. The cover on the right makes
really good use of the lighting as it is attention grabbing, stark and
meaningful and very representative of the rock genre. I would
definitely like to do something like the album cover on the right,
grabbing our target audiences attention and looking quite creepy and
unsettling.
Queens of the Stone Age
10. The
Shins are an alternative rock band
who are quite well known and who I would
like to take influence from in creating our
album cover.
The Shins
11. I really like The Shins album cover as they are cartoons/drawings
but they still have meaning and they are quite different and original.
They set the band apart from similar bands of the same genre. I
think if we used drawings it would definitely be original and would
hopefully attract our target audience. I like how the drawings are
quite peculiar and can be interpreted in many different ways but they
still have an element of mystery about them and can be seen as
quite dark.
