Producing my media product, I got the chance to use a use a
professional camera to film. This was really interesting and beneficial as
it really improved the quality and outcome of my film.
I did all the filming for my film so I feel like I have become incredibly
comfortable using one of these cameras as before I didn’t know how to
use one.
There are many buttons and controls on the camera which you have to
learn about and get used to, such as the recording button, zoom in/out,
focus the lenses, etc.
During the filming process I also used a tripod to hold the camera still at
times. This was a really useful piece of equipment as it made the filming
easier and look more professional.

FINAL CUT
The software that I used to create my
final product was called ‘Final Cut
Express’ which is fairly simple to use
once you get used to it, I first had to
have a tutorial on how to use it.
After converting the media files from
tape to digital documents, I had to
review them and delete any unwanted
scenes. This took me a long time as I
had taken many shots of each scene to
make sure that I got it perfect.
The software allowed me to trim, add

EDITING
Final Cut Express gave me the opportunity
to add any necessary effects to make my
product look professional and more scary.
I experimented with different effects and
learned how to change different aspects
such as the colouring and speed of a clip.
I used this to change the colour of the
opening scene to black and white, this
emphasised the fact that it was set in the
1800’s.
I also used my new knowledge to add
spooky special effects during the
appearances of Florence, to achieve a

SOUND EFFECTS
As my film was low budget and due to my lack of
music skill, I was unable to create any of my own
music for the film.
Alternatively, I used a range of different websites such
as YouTube and MP3 Downloader, to find suitable
music and embedded it to my production.
This process helped me learn the importance that
music and sound effects have in films as it is one of
the main aspects that create the atmosphere and
revokes emotion from the audience.

PHOTOSHOP
After I had finishing editing my product, I moved on
to making a poster to advertise the product.
For this, I used Adobe Photoshop, which is a
professional and most commonly used software for
this kind of production work.
I had previously had a short introduction tutorial to
this program so I was familiar with the tools and
such on it.
Whilst making the poster, I learned what the needs
are to create a successful advertisement and what a
film poster should contain. This includes features
such at the given certificate of the film, the
production credits, release date, etc.
The program allowed me to experiment with different
fonts and colours for the writing to create generic
conventions of the horror genre (such as the deadly
red writing at the top).
