2. Conduct Research on Your Target
• Background information
Proffesional experience
Personal interest
Achievement and failures
• Platforms or channels to connect
Networking events
Personal connection
Direct contact
• Available resources
Traditional media : TV, newspaper, etc
Internet: Social networking sites?
Interviews: People who know them
3. Formulate Your Networking Approach
• Whats in it for them?
Relationship building : Foster contacts & get information
Search for oppurtunities to work together towards mutual goals

Brief introduction : background + passion

• Dont rush all the talking points in one meeting

Contact them through their secretary
• Ask for an advise

Be interested before trying to be interesting
How to handle silence : open ended questions
• Graceful exit :

“I have enjoyed meeting you. I’d like to make a couple other connections.

Ask open-ended questions ( people love talking about themselves )
Avoid controversial topics
Dont monopolize conservations – include everyone in the conservation

Observe and analyze non verbal cues
Start with the people you know
Find the right timing to join the group

A short note highlighting your conversation and future interest
