12. THE TYPICAL SLIDE
âą The goal of a presentation is to communicate effectively with an audience
using each medium properly (âproperlyâ = the way it works best for the audience)
âą If your slides look like this, you are using the visual communication medium
incorrectly because you are changing visual to written communication
âą Audiences will read this slide as soon as it appears on the screen
âą Because audiences canât read and listen at the same time, they will read the
slide first and then come back to listening to you
âą Because youâre still on Bullet #1 and your audience has read the entire
thing, the need for you as the presenter is gone. Youâll never catch up to
what your audience already knows by reading ahead

47. THIS IS A TEST... SLIDE
âą Here are a few additional tips to help you improve your visual design:
âą A great place to find images is Compfight.com. I do not use Google Images.
âą Compfight is a Flickr search engine. Remember to search âCommercialâ
images because we work at Full Sail University, a for-profit college.
âą Templates, clip art, slideuments, and stock photos let audiences know the
following: 1) you are boring, 2) you donât care about them, and 3) you havenât
joined the presentation revolution. Itâs time to get real!
âą Audiences crave effective presentations. If you donât create a presentation
with their needs in mind, you are not doing your job as a presenter.
60. Purposeless Animation
âą This animation has no purpose
If youâre using animation
to grab your audienceâs attention,
your content and delivery must not be that great...
âą Slides should be simple.
âą Animation takes away from that simplicity.
âą Only use it when absolutely necessary.

73. Fun Facts About CATS!
âą People believe cats were domesticated in Egypt
âą Cats are primarily nocturnal animals
âą As of right now, studies prove that cats are the
most popular pet in the entire world
