Melanie Healey was ranked number fifteen in Fortune Magazine’s “The 50 Most
Powerful Women” for 2009. As of January 10, 2010 Melanie Healey is the Group
President- North America at Proctor & Gamble. She currently oversees 40% of Proctor &
Gamble’s revenue, which is equivalent to an estimated $32 billion. She also manages
14,000 employees in 110 countries.
Background
Melanie Liddle Healey was born on April 5, 1961 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is
married to her husband Bruce, a stay at home dad. Bruce and Melanie Healey have a
fifteen-year-old son named Nick and a fourteen-year-old daughter named Jackie. Melanie
has lived in Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, and currently resides in Cincinnati. Melanie
Healey graduated from the University of Richmond, Virginia in 1983 with a B.S. degree
in business administration from the Robins School of Business.
Early Career
Melanie Healey began her career at S.C. Johnson & Sons in Brazil working as the
Assistant Brand Manager and Sales Training and Brand Manager. While there, she
managed Raid Insecticides. In 1987 she became the Brand Manager and Marketing
Manager of Johnson & Johnson in Brazil. She managed a number of items including
baby toiletries, cotton swabs, and sun-care products.
Early Career at Proctor & Gamble
On July 9th 1990, Melanie Healey accepted a position at Proctor & Gamble in Brazil. She
worked as Phebo Soap Brand Manager and Pampers Marketing Manager. In 1993, she
became the Personal Cleansing & Fabric Softeners Marketing Manager in Mexico. In
1995 she became the Marketing Director of Health Care in Brazil. In 1997 she served as
Marketing Director of Health and Hair Care in Brazil. In 1998 she became the General
Manager of Feminine Care North America in Venezuela.
Executive Career at Proctor & Gamble
Then in 2001, Melanie Healey transferred to Cincinnati, the Proctor & Gamble
headquarters, to serve as General Manager of Feminine Care. She was made Vice

President & General Manager of Feminine Care North America that same year. In 2005
she became the first woman President of Proctor & Gamble’s Global Feminine Care
GBU. In 2006 she was made President of Global Feminine Care & Adult Care GBU. In
2007, she became Group President of Global Feminine Care and Health Care. As Group
President of the Global Feminine Care business, Melanie Healey has helped Proctor &
Gamble’s feminine and health care stock to increase by 17.5%, as well as increase sales
and profit.
Local and National Activities
Melanie Healey has been a member of the Board of Directors for Bacardi Limited since
2008. She was made a member of the Board of Directors for the University of Richmond
in 2009. Since 2007, Melanie Healey has been a member of the Fine Arts Fund Board of
Directors for Greater Cincinnati and is also a member of the Women’s Capital Club of
Cincinnati. Since 2003, Melanie Healey has been a founding member of the Women’s
Leadership Initiative – United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
Achievements
Besides being ranked 15th on Fortune magazine’s “Top 50 Most Powerful Women in
Business,” Melanie Healey has also been ranked 84th on Forbes.com’s list of “The 100
Most Powerful Women.” Melanie Healey has been a recognized by Fortune Magazine
every year since 2007 as one of “Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.” The Wall
Street Journal included Melanie Healey in their “2007 Women to Watch.” In 2007,
Melanie Healey was given the YMCA Career Woman of Achievement Award. In 2008,
the University of Richmond Alumni Association recognized Healey with its
“distinguished service award.” From 2004 to 2005, Melanie Healey was Chair for Proctor
and Gamble’s Fine Arts Fund Corporate Campaign.
