Introduction
Barcodes are a set of machine-readable parallel bars varying in width, height or spacing,
encoding information according to a symbology. The mapping between messages and
barcodes is called a symbology.
Barcodes provide detailed information on key aspects of the item sold, enabling sales activity
to be executed quickly.
Barcodes provide accurate data.
Scanning the barcode makes data entry faster.
Manual entry error can be avoided.
This in turn helps in quick billing, stock taking, physical stock verification, etc.
In Shoper 9, Barcodes can be generated for items that do not have it or as per specific
requirements of customer.
Tags can be printed centrally at Head Office, having more control over the printing process or
printed at the store or printed at the distribution points, if the stores are spread across the
geography.
Shoper 9 supports the designing of a barcode template and printing of barcode labels
according to user specification, thus making the process simple. Flexibility in selecting the
information to be printed and the ability to configure for different types of stationery and
printers using these features makes barcode printing affordable and convenient.
Barcode design for thermal printers is done collectively by the Shoper support personnel/
partner, retailer and the printer vendor. For standard printers the barcode design can be done
by Shoper support personnel/ partner or retailer.

Features in Shoper 9
A customer can generate a barcode with information like Product, Brand, Style, Colour/
Shade, Size and few more additional classifications, price, captions, etc.
The design requirement of the customer can be adapted to any existing type of printer
(including Thermal printer). This feature can be used in dot-matrix, inkjet or laser printers;
any type of stationery or items, thus making it very cost effective.
You have the flexibility of defining the number of labels that can be printed in a row or on a
particular page according to your requirements.
The barcode label can contain information and the size of the label can be adjusted to fit the
size of the item. For example, while designing barcode for watches the size of the label should
be small, yet, it has to accommodate all the information. Hence, the size of the font and
placing of the field values are crucial while designing the barcode.
Pre requisites
To print the barcode labels, printer specific script files are required.
Options in Shoper 9
The following four options are available:
Design Label for Barcode Printers
Design Label for Standard Printers
Design Layout for Standard Printers
Print Labels
Design Label for Barcode Printers
(Script generation for printing barcodes using Thermal Printers)
A Script file is generated by the barcode printer vendor as per customer specifications like the
length and width of the label, number of labels to be printed in a row, etc.
Import/ load this script file into Shoper 9 through the Barcode Script Generation option in
Shoper 9, map the fields captured in Shoper 9 to create an interface between Shoper 9 and
the script file.

Barcode content and configuration
A barcode content tag can contain string, integer and text values. The field required will be
replaced by the value from the database.
A string refers to stock number, product description, product code, brand code,
description, etc. The starting position of the string to be printed depends on whether it
is a generated string or a user assigned string. The length of the string and the number
of decimals to be printed are captured here.
An Integer refers to the quantity, tax rate, retail price, etc. The length of the integer
and the number of decimals to be printed are captured here.
The length of the text and its values like the showroom name, address, etc., is cap-
tured.
Save the settings made to the barcode script as a .txt file.
Design Label for Standard Printers
Use this option to create barcode labels as per user requirements like various fields, fonts,
image, etc., can be included and printed using laser, inkjet and dot-matrix printers.
Place the required fields and their values in the barcode label designer.
The field parameter group varies depending upon the field type selected.
The field type or label content can be grouped as Constant Text, Barcode Label, fields
from item master table and Image.
The Symbology of the barcode to be printed can be selected under the
group Barcode Label.
Apply the field settings and then save in the required folder. The designed barcode label
template is saved as a file with the extension .btf.
Design Layout for Standard Printers
Design the layout of the barcode label using this option. This design layout feature can be
used for standard printers and with different types of stationery. You can configure the page
size, page format and number of rows and columns to be printed in a page.
1. Load the label design file. The loaded file can be previewed to check whether it contains
the required information.
2. Enter the required page settings like the page and pitch settings, number of labels in a
page, etc.
3. Preview the layout design.
4. Save the file with the extension .blf.

Print Labels
Barcode labels stored in barcode script format can be printed with laser, inkjet and other

select the .blf file.
The values from the file populate the Tag Printing screen.
If the selected script file is a .txt file, you need to enter/ select the values
wherever the fields are blank.
Thermal Printers
1. Select File as the output. You can also browse and select a specific existing file. By default,
the output is saved in Out folder as Manualbar.seq.
2. Create a batch file in the Out folder to print Manualbar.seq.
3. Create a text file.
4. Insert the string Type Manualbar.seq > prn.
5. Rename the file extension as .bat.
