7. Updates provides a stream of Valerie’s activities: editing pages, adding comments, adding tags to pages or people, and additions and removals to her social network.
8.
9. Valerie’s Dashboard is her personal home page, customized to display both internal and external content which is important to her.
10. The Workspaces she is a member of are also automatically displayed on the dashboard.
11.
12. A Google Search widget, and RSS feed reader widget, help Valerie stay informed.
13. The My Conversations widget allows Valerie to keep track of the recent edits, comments, and tags related to the pages she is participating in. The My Colleagues widget is similar, but instead displays all activities related to the people that Valerie is following.
14. In addition to components from the Socialtext platform, Dashboard also supports adding thousands of Google gadgets.
15. To help manage the items that require her attention, Valerie has added a page from the Marketing workspace which displays the current status of the various marketing projects at Ryker. From here she can easily access the People and Pages involved.
16. Clicking on the link takes her to the Press Release page. By working in a shared page instead of email, all comments and ideas are collected in a central place.
17. Valerie can now Tag the page, indicating that she approves, and it is ready to go to the Press.
18. With her work done on the press release, Valerie can now turn her attention to other marketing tasks. To go to the Central Page of the Marketing workspace, Valerie clicks on the workspace title in the Navigation bar.
19. The Central Page of a Socialtext Workspace enables members to share important information, useful links, or anything else they would like to appear each time a member accesses the workspace. Valerie and her team use the Central Page to provide quick access to project status, leads targets, upcoming events, and more.
20. Valerie would like to see Ryker Solar Power start to leverage more of today’s “2.0” tools, such as blogs, Facebook, Linked In, Youtube, Twitter, etc. To start, she needs to find out who at Ryker has skills in these new technologies. To do this, she returns to her Socialtext Dashboard by clicking Home at the top left of the page.
22. Valerie is now presented with a catalog of available widgets from both Socialtext, as well as third party vendors such as Google, Flickr, Wikipedia, MapQuest, and others. She chooses the People Tag cloud.
23. This adds a tag cloud to Valerie’s Socialtext Dashboard, which visually displays the tags that are applied to profiles in Socialtext People. Here Valerie can easily find tags that match what she is looking for, such as Blogger. Clicking on a tag, displays a list of all the Profiles that contain that tag.
24. Now Valerie can discover the people who have the skills she is looking for. She can choose to contact them, add them to her social network, or view the activities they have been involved in, simply by viewing their profile.
