ConserveCanada is a Canadian non-profit dedicated to educating children about energy conservation and sustainability through interactive workshops. It aims to teach kids how their actions can help Canada meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 17% by 2020 and transition to more sustainable energy sources. The organization's workshop program brings recent graduates into classrooms to creatively teach grade 5 science students about Canada's current overreliance on non-renewable resources, how conservation can help, and renewable energy alternatives.

2. Use and Manage Canada Responsibly
The Problem
Canada currently uses 70% of its total energy use from non-renewable resources. This use is not
sustainable or environmentally responsible.
According to Canada’s Action Plan on Climate Change, “The Government of Canada is committed to reducing
Canada's total greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020” (Government of Canada,
2012).
•This goal is achievable.
•In order to meet this target Canadians need to aggressively implement change now and create programs for
tomorrow.
•We need to conserve our conventional energy resources while we continue to adopt and advance new ideas,
alternative and renewable resources such as wind energy, solar energy, biomass, electric vehicles and other
hybrid systems.
Conservation is the critical component that will allow us to reach this goal!

3. Use and Manage Canada Responsibly
The Solution
To educate, engage, encourage and challenge children in the areas of conservation and
the environment.
•ConserveCanada provides a free, fun and interactive energy conservation workshop to
Canadian grade 5 science students. The ConserveCanada Workshop program is an Innovative,
Unique and Measurable approach to educate Canada’s future decision makers to “Use and
Manage Canada responsibly.
Conservation immediately decreases our current greenhouse gas emissions.
Conservation immediately decreases our demand for Canada’s fossil fuel resources.
The introduction and advancement of new ideas, alternative and renewable energies
allow us to offset fossil fuel electricity generation, further decreasing our emissions and
further conserving our fossil fuel resources.
Conservation allows us to reduce cost increases by reducing the need for new energy
generation.
We need to conserve our existing resources while we implement change!

4. Use and Manage Canada Responsibly
THE WORKSHOP PROGRAM
ConserveCanada’s goal is to educate, engage, encourage and challenge children in the areas of conservation and the
environment. Long-term, consistent messaging to a specific elementary school age group (grade 5 science students) will instill
important understanding of our current and future energy needs. Guiding our children today will help our future decision makers of
tomorrow make the right decisions to “Use and Manage Canada Responsibly”. This long-term plan will stimulate immediate
conservation change and establish a program that will effectively change the future conservation landscape and help Canada
achieve its aggressive energy goals.
ConserveCanada team members are invited into Canadian elementary classrooms as the “Teachers Aid”, providing a fun and
interactive learning experience. Team members focus on the importance of conservation, understanding the impacts caused by
our current energy use, and the introduction of new ideas, alternative and renewable energies. No single alternative or renewable
energy technology is promoted. Instead, all alternative and renewable energy technologies are highlighted as part of our future
energy mix and solution. Students are shown realistic ways to conserve and are encouraged to challenge others to do the same.
ConserveCanada team members are recent engineering or teaching graduates with a passion for making a difference.
The ConserveCanada Workshop Program is innovative in our direct market approach, targeted audience (grade 5 students), and
in its ability to utilize an existing infrastructure (Canadian educational system). Teachers are supportive of the program approach
and school boards encourage “Community Partners” as mentors. Teachers appreciate having the availability of additional
resources and support without the pressures of additional cost.
