A review of 53 studies found that several factors can predict progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia, including age, education level, memory impairment severity, functional impairment, and biomarkers like brain atrophy and amyloid plaques. The review presented a model showing progression from healthy cognition to MCI to mild, moderate, and severe dementia over time as measured by the Mini-Mental State Examination score.
