This is a vertical differentiation of
authority.
Organizations are hierarchically
organized because this could helps in
supervising employees and in
coordinating and making decisions.
qRules, Procedures, Controls and
Techniques

 Rules- to answer to the problem of governing large scale
of organizations. It may be formal or Informal.
 Standard operating procedures- a standardized way of
responding to recurring problems situations. This is sort
of routinized behavior.
 Controls- summary measures of behavior, whether of
machines or of human. These are primary means by
which an organization remains close to its chartered
path.
 Technique- oftentimes referred to as the “little method
within a method”. They are also the standardized
means by which given ends can be achieved.
qFormality of Communication

In an organization, the work of each
member are closely linked to what some
other are doing. This makes it a matter
of necessity to use a standardized, work-
related technical vocabulary. This
facilitates communication and rules out
ambiguity and understanding. The
language used in a organization is quite
different from the language employed at
home or purely social setting.
qSpecialization of functions and
division of labor.

In division of labor, work is divided so
that no one is saddled with a great of
burden, while in specialization,
individuals are asked to perform only a
narrow range of functions so that they
develop a great deal of performance.
qEmployment of skilled personnel
Hiring a competent workers and persons.
qSpecificity of purpose
Varies between and among organizations.
Some conglomerates put no limitation
of the kinds of goods and services they
may do business with.
Organizations not only have specific
purposes but they are organized to
achieve these.
