Barack Obama Ashley Fowler Period 3
Why Should We Care About This Event? This event will go down as one of the biggest changes in American history. We went from complete segregation towards blacks in the 1960’s. We weren’t even allowed to drink from the same water fountains and now, we have an African American running out country. This is the start of a new beginning for all Americans.
Apr 21st - The United States Air Force retires the F-117 Nighthawk. Sep 21st - The final home game is played at Yankee Stadium against the Baltimore Oriole. Miss America 2008: Kirsten Haglund. She is 22 years. Dec 14th - President George W. Bush made his fourth and final (planned) trip to Iraq as president and almost got struck by two shoes thrown at him by Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi during a farewell conference in Baghdad. Nov 22nd - YouTube hosts the largest ever live broadcast, YouTube Live.
America played a huge role in the Presidential Election of 2008. Not only did they elect the president, but they made history. We will always remember the first African American President. Who Was Involved?
What Happened? The election was held on November 4th, 2008. Democrat Barack Obama (Senator of Illinois), defeated Republican John McCain (Senator of Arizona). Obama received 365 electoral votes while McCain received 173. The election was the first in which an African American was elected President. It was also the first time two sitting senators ran against each other.
Political Cartoon! In this cartoon, President Barack Obama is making a speech to let Americans know he still considers them gullible for believing every single word to come from his mouth. He made promises he never intended to keep. “As the lies pile up and the endless wars and taxes overwhelm the country, some brave people are standing against tyranny arm-in-arm. Only then can we take back this great country from the ruthless bankers and NWO crony capitalists that are destroying the USA.”
