Challenge
With a small, but growing and passionate
audience, Gnarly Head Wine wanted to
develop a fun, social application that would
reinforce the brand’s “gnarly” positioning
with younger, more outgoing wine drinkers.
Solution
The Gnarly Friends Facebook application
mines and analyzes users’ (and their
friends’) profiles, and uses a backend
algorithm to weigh each user’s likes against
Gnarly Head’s brand positioning
(Skydiving? Very gnarly! Scrapbooking? Not
so much). Consumers receive a “Gnarly
Rating” and are shown which of their friends
are the most “Gnarly”.

Solution The Gnarly Friends Facebook application mines and analyzes users’ (and their friends’) profiles, and uses a backend algorithm to weigh each user’s likes against Gnarly Head’s brand positioning (Skydiving?
