First built in 1033 AD, Natang Monastery is located in the side of China-Nepal Highway 20 kilometers away from the urban area. The first Danai Lama Gendun Zhuba had got ordained here and studied Buddhism for seventeen years.

kilometers away from the urban area. The first Danai Lama Gendun Zhuba had got ordained here
and studied Buddhism for seventeen years.
The most famous of Natang Monastery are the workshops for printing Buddhist sutras. In 1730,
the local government of Tibet presided over the creation of the printing house in order to save and
carry forward the Tibet ancient books and scriptures. After long-term efforts, Natang Monastery
printing blocks has carved and printed a large number of Tibetan works, such as the Tripitaka "
Kangyur" one hundred and eight pieces and the sparse Buddhist note " Tengyur" two hundred and
fifteen pieces.
Tripitaka in Tibetan is classified into Kangyur and Tengyur, divided into two parts. Kangyur
means "the Buddha words", the Tengyur means "the view of Buddha and senior monks" that both
of them mainly included the discussion of disciples of the Buddha and Buddhism Buddhist
scholars in latter times. This Tengyur was made in VIII Danai Lama period with the special ink
which is grinding the gold, silver, copper, iron, turquoise, red coral, pearl and other seven kinds of
raw material into juice and then carefully written.
