The document discusses the role and responsibilities of a film distributor in identifying large audiences and marketing films. It recommends partnering with 20th Century Fox or Warner Brothers as distributors for the film "Infiltrator" due to their success in distributing similar conspiracy and British films worldwide. Some marketing strategies mentioned include film festival screenings, talk show interviews, social media promotion, trailers in theaters and on other media. While self-distribution allows more control, it is determined that using an experienced distributor would better maximize resources and audience reach.
Mixin Classes in Odoo 17 How to Extend Models Using Mixin Classes
Distribution
1.
2. A film distributer is responsible for
identifying the largest audience possible
and delivering it to them e.g. through
relations with cinema chains, TV and retail
DVD Companies and Online Streaming
sites.
3. A film distributer is also in charge of marketing
the film using promotions, screenings, press
conferences, public relations, marketing
materials and social media such as YouTube,
Facebook and Twitter. This ensures the film has
a presence amongst its competitors.
6. For Infiltrator, I feel that the two distribution
Companies it would benefit most from are
20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers.
However, the films distributed by Warner Brothers are some of the most
famous for Conspiracy, such as ‘Matrix’ and ‘Contact’ which is an
important part of Infiltrator. They also distributed British films such as the
‘Harry Potter’ series and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ I feel we
would need a Distribution Company that we could trust to take our film
world-wide as Warner Brothers has done for many British films before.
7. Infiltrator, like the Bond films, is proudly British so our
leading audience will undoubtedly be within Great
Britain and Ireland.
However, since English is the International language,
it’s very possible that Infiltrator could stretch to the
USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and possibly
across Europe and beyond if it is re-released in
different languages.
The success of the stereotypical Spy with a British
accent is already established in the International
market (with the Bond films). We could therefore aim
our film towards this market.
8. The distributers could spend the
money to have pre-release
audience research.
They could go to film festivals
such as the Berlin, Venice,
Beijing or Cannes Film Festivals.
Here they would present their
film to British exhibiters such as
Cineworld or Odeon as well as
International exhibitors.
Key actors or the Director could
be interviewed on talk-shows
such as the One Show, Alan
Carr Chatty Man etc.
Closely followed names on
Social Networking sites such as
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
could advertise our film trailer or
give their opinions on the film to
their followers.
The film’s trailer could be
advertised on certain TV
channels and moving bill-
boards in busy streets e.g.
London.
Behind the scenes documentary
style shows between TV
programmes talking about the
film.
Movie trailer could be shown
before films in cinema and on
DVDs of the same genre and
audience.
The film could be released on
DVD, Blu-ray or Netflix after
being shown in the cinemas.
9. Advantages
We would have all rights
over our film and
complete control as to
where it is shown.
We can use the money
saved from not using a
distributer in other parts
of the project such as
the production.
Disadvantages
We’re not using our expertise
in a way that would
maximise our resources.
We wouldn’t have
established relationships with
buyers (like a distributer
would)that we could use.
We would have to make
sure we were not signing up
to rights that would avert us
from screening the film
elsewhere.
The film might not reach the
wide audience that it has
potential to reach.
10. Considering the advantages and
disadvantages of Self Distribution, I feel
that it would be better to employ a
distributer for our film. They would have
more experience and relations in the
distribution field and the film would reach a
wider audience.
