your block B8.06 Your block consists of 30 t0 32 days with 13 days off or 33 days with 14 days off There are 4 types of days : Days on : Call in or Ready Reserve Days off : Guaranteed or non-	Guaranteed
days in your block - days on Call In Reserve B8.13 & 27 You are expected to call in the night before between 20:00 -23:00 for flight assignment If no assignment is available, you can ask to be released or you may be converted to Ready reserve (B8.29) After completing the assignment you are required to call to “check out” Ready Reserve B8.30 You are expected to be contactable and ready to accept an assignment during the entire 24 hour period If you are awarded an assignment you are not required to call to “check out”

open bidding – pre select B8.26 A list of all open flights for the month is published prior to the block month beginning and each day during the block month. You can bid for flights departing on the first day of any set of Call in, Ready Reserve or non guaranteed days off These open flights will be awarded in order of seniority, per language and classification requirements Prior to the start of the block month, each Reserve Block holder will be awarded one pairing. Once the block month begins, you can bid as often and for as many pairings as you like.
open bidding –preselect b8.26 …..continued If you are on a C or R day, you may required to operate an additional flight after the preselect -Nothing can be added onto a preselect awarded on days off If the pairing is awarded on days off you must return to base in time to receive a regular reserve assignment
how to submit a bid RES III password - call 1800 361 7373 It is an old archaic system – there are help manuals in the Comm. Centre to assist with the codes needed to input a bid Bids must be received by at least 10 am the day prior to the departure of the flight

  3. If there is any variance between the material presented here and the Air Canada CUPE Collective Agreement, the Collective Agreement shall be deemed to be correct. All material presented here is without prejudice and precedent to any position the Union may take in the future and is the most accurate information available at the present time.
  4. Reserve 101 How to Survive and thrive – in this seminar we will cover the basics for new employees and for employees who may find themselves on reserve once again. We will start with the basics – how your block is built, how you will be assigned, how long you will work and rest and how you will get paid.
  5. A block is your flight schedule for one month. The block month may or may not coincide with the calendar month. A block month consists of 30 to 32 days, of which 13 are scheduled days off. If the block month is 33 days, then you will have 14 scheduled days off. There are 4 types of days in a block month. Days on are divided into Call-in or Ready Reserve days, while days off are divided into guaranateed or non guaranteed days off. Sometimes these days are called inviolate or non inviolate days off.
  6. If you are scheduled to be on a Call in or “C” day , you are expected to call crew scheduling the night before to receive a flight assignment. If there are no flights available, you can be released for the day or you can be converted to ready reserve status. After you have completed the flights assigned to you, you are required to “check out” with crew scheduling prior to leaving the airport. The other type of day is called a ready reserve day. You are expected to be on standby at home base and ready to accept any assignment within that 24 hour period There is no requirement to check out after operating a flight on a ready reserve day.
  7. Your guaranteed days off are exactly that – guaranteed. You should never be given a flight assignment that flies you into these days, nor can you be drafted, open bid or operate a pairing on voluntary extension during these days.Non guaranteed days off are different. If necessary, you may be flown into these days, in which case your days off begin after 12 hours crew rest. You may be drafted, bid a preselect or operate a pairing on voluntary extension on these days off.
  8. The award sequence is outlined in article B7.04 of our Collective Agreement. Open flying, reassignment and voluntary extension are assigned first, then reserve. Call in reserves are assigned first, followed by Ready Reserves. Reserve assignments are to be done from low time to high time. For example, if you have accumulated 40 hours of flight time credits, and your friend only has 30 hours, your friend should receive the flight assignment first, provided s/he is legal in all respects to operate the flight.
  9. You may be assigned a pairing (a sequence of flights) or you can be assigned to standby at the airport for a 4 hour period. You can be assigned a flight that departs anytime during the 4 hour period, but you must receive notification of the assignment within the 4 hours. After operating a pairing, you may be asked to wait at the airport on standby for an additional hour.
  10. The maximum monthly limitation is normally 80 hours flight time credits per month and the Company has the ability to designate up to 4 block months as 85 hour months. There is a clause called return to base extension which may cause you to exceed the 80/85 hour maximum. If you are on your last flight of the month, your remaining availability can be doubled. For example, if you have accumulated 74 hours of credit in an 80 hour block month and you still have days on, that 6 hours can be doubled to 12 hours, meaning the Company can assign you up to 86 hours. This can only be done on your last pairing of the month. If you have accumulated 72 hours of flight time credit and you still have scheduled days on, you can request crew scheduling release you from further flight duty for that block month. They have the option to release you or assign you a pairing. The pairing can depart on any of your remaining reserve days. They must assign you or release you – they cannot ask you to call back.
  11. Every duty period has a limitation – no on expects you to remain on the job indefinitely. Duty period limitations are outlined in article B5.03 of the Collective Agreement, and, for long haul and extra long haul flights under B14, LOU 18 and LOU 22.Once you are scheduled to exceed the maximum (usually due to some kind of delay) you have the ability to continue working or book crew rest. If you book crew rest you lose all credits associated with the pairing. If you opt to stay on the job, you will be entitle to a 50% premium on flight time credits for that day. (time and half)
  12. Here is a summary of our duty periods. Not your duty periods differ when you are at a crew base (where you can easily be replaced) and when not at a crew base (when it is harder for crew sched to replace you)

  16. Being on reserve isn’t easy, but there are some things you can do to make your life on reserve more bearable!
  17. When on ready reserve, you can request up to 6 hours of release from duty, which will be granted when operationally possible. This is useful if you need to go out during the day to buy groceries, go to the gym or attend a doctors appointment etc.
  18. Every day a list of open pairings is published in the comm centre. You may bid on any pairing that departs on the first day of a set of Call In, Ready Reserve of non guaranteed days off. These flights are awarded in seniority order, subject to language and classification. At the end of the preceedingblock month, each reserve who bids may be awarded one open pairing they bid on for the next block month. After that, you may bid every day and be awarded as many pairings as you have the seniority to hold.
  19. You may be assigned additional flights to operate after your preselect, unless your were originally scheduled to be on days off.If you are bidding for a pairing on your days off, you must normally be home in time to begin your regular scheduled days on. For example, if you have 3 non guaranteed days off followed by 3 Call in days, you will not normally be awarded a 4 day pairing.
  20. Ask your local communications centre co-ordinator for assistance with submitting your open bid. We are eagerly awaiting the introduction of an online bidding system for open bids, so that you do not have to visit the airport everyday to bid. We expect to see the Company introduce this in 2011.For now, you will continue to use the RES 3 system. Remember, all bids must be received by 10 am the day prior to the departure of the flight!
