5. “Your majesty the 'Fueye‘
(slang for bellow),
this Wagnerian bird
arrived in Argentina
because it knew
Anibal Troilo would be
born there.“
(Horacio Ferrer)
6. "There isn’t an old tango nor a new
tango. Tango is one. Perhaps the only
difference is between those who
do it well and those who don’t."
Anibal Troilo
Caricatura de Pichuco. G. Arena Ba. Bca.
7. "The ‘bandoneon’ has
seduced me since childhood.
Since I didn’t have one, I
used to practice with a pillow
over my legs. When I was 9
years old, as a child's prank, I
got on a stage and I placed a
‘fueye’ over my knees for the
first time. I never removed it.
It was love at first sight. “
Anibal Troilo
8. "Of all the tangos I composed, ‘Sur’ and
‘Responso’ are my favorites. In other
words, the two I love the most. The
inspiration for ‘Responso’ came one night
while playing blackjack with some friends
in my home; I... felt like I was not there. It
was 4 am in the morning when I suddenly
went to my room and started playing a
few notes. ‘Responso’ started to come
up! I think this is the best tribute we
could give to Homero Manzi.”
Anibal Troilo
9. Pichuco had a well-earned
reputation as a chubby good
man, helpful and generous. Zita,
the love of his life used to say:
"One day I reproached his
working every night with the
quartet, even though we no
longer were short of money. He
replied: "How are the singer and
his six children going to eat? If I
don’t work he doesn’t work
either”
10. "When playing, the chubby
man used to close his Asian
eyes, forget everything and
let the musses guide him to
unknown hidden places until
a strange force, probably the
enthusiastic applauses,
returned him to reality. He
always kept the secret of his
escape."
11. "Why should I go…
if I am always coming back!"
