2. STEP ONE
Step one was to decide on the establishing shots we would use. We decided to use run down and derelict
places. Me, Toby and Jacob all took out a camera each and I went to the car park and the factory, Toby
went to the bridge on the A38 and the field and Jacob went to the hill on pit tip. The next day at school, we
looked through all the shots we had taken and chose the best ones to use.
3. STEP TWO
We then had to decide which order we wanted them to appear in and how long they would last for. We
knew we wanted to have the interview running while these shots were being shown so we measures how
long that lasted for and divided it by five, seeing as we have five establishing shots. The interview lasts for
around 25 seconds so it made sense to have each establishing shot last for five seconds each. So, we
decided to use the shot of the hill first. We watched through the whole clip that Jacob filmed and decided
which was the best five seconds. We needed to decided which five seconds had the best camera work and
the right effects that we were looking for.
4. STEP THREE
Next, we chose the road. The road is the A38, a very busy road normally so we had to just film for five
minutes and hope we could manage to get five seconds of the road empty. Toby found the best angle he
could, and filmed constantly. We only managed to find around 2.2 seconds where the road was completely
clear. We needed five seconds, not 2.2, so we added the short clip of the empty road twice and then an
additional 0.1 second. This gave us five seconds of empty road, which is exactly what we wanted.
5. STEP FOUR
Next, we decided to use the ruined factory. I went and filmed for a few seconds of the factory at different
angles. I always did it as a pan shot to try and get in as much of the ruins as I could. I filmed it close up, far
away and from a low angle. I did this to get a good range of clips to choose from. We ended up choosing
the one which showed the most detail and chose the best five seconds. We chose the best bit of the clip
which was the least wobbly and moved at a steady pace.
6. STEP FIVE
Finally, we used the tree and then the car park. We used the same techniques as before and chose the
best clips that were filmed. Once we did that, we then chose the best five seconds and put them into our
opening.
