7 proud moments
1. Proud Moments:
When you get to my age and you are at a time self-reflection proud
moments are so important. Here are a few of those moments:
2. Educators and researchers alike, have come to a consensus collaboration in education is imperative (Desimone, 2009
and Little, 2007) be it for effective professional development, teaching, leading or researching (DuFour, 2001 and
2002). The qualities an educator must have to be the most effective collaborator stem from the characteristics of
humility found in the Confessions of St. Augustine (397-398) and continue through more contemporary philosophical
works such as Wings of Soul by Dadi Janki (1999). Though centuries apart and rooted in different geo and
demographics, St. Augustine and Dadi Janki explain the power of humility in all walks of life, with an emphasis on
education (St. Augustine and Dadi Janki being educators) and the meaning it has in building relationships, sharing
relationships and sustaining relationships. The purpose of this paper is to define collaboration through the
characteristics of humility in three specific educational potential collaborative efforts between: 1) Collegiate and public
school educators (administrators and teachers), 2) administrators and teachers, and 3) special education teachers and
general education teachers. The implications remind educators that humility characterized by true respect, reduced ego
is crucial to collaboration.
