ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Ensure that ABIM’s clinical performance measures and measure groups are clinically relevant for ABIM

o Work with ABIM Board and staff leadership to refine and advance ABIM’s measures strategy.
o Develop and maintain a framework, criteria, and instructions for identifying measures and measure
groups that reflect ABIM’s standards, goals and mission (e.g. criteria and method for identifying core and
supportive measure sets of performance).
o Participate on ABIM measure development and maintenance committees to ensure the measures
strategy is implemented.
o Provide leadership to Physician Lead group and ABIM staff to ensure the measures strategy is
implemented uniformly.

o Work with ABIM staff and physician lead group to develop and implement a roadmap (workplan) for ABIM
measure maintenance and development activities.
o Lead efforts to learn from our experiences and continually improve the processes and criteria used for the
selection and definition of measures and measure groups.
o Support ABIM staff with clinical expertise and experience for measures projects, including ongoing
responsibility for the clinical content of at least 2 PIMs.
o Oversee or lead the systematic review of literature in support of the evidence basis for our measures.
• Represent ABIM and work with other organizations in the clinical measurement environment to advance
ABIM’s measurement programs and strategy.
o Represent ABIM and advance ABIM’s measurement strategy at performance measurement organizations
such as PCPI, Joint Commission, CMS, NQF, and NCQA to ensure clinically relevant and robust measure
groups are included in the national measure enterprise in a manner that will enable ABIM to carry out its
assessment programs.
o Work with others from ABIM to respond appropriately to Calls for Measures and Calls for Nominations
from the clinical performance measurement organizations.
o Draft ABIM comments and recommend voting positions as needed for relevant measures developed by
other organizations.
o Establish ABIM as experts in clinical performance measurement to gain greater visibility and participation
in the national measure enterprise.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Work with others as needed to help determine analysis and interpret reports on aggregate performance
based on data derived from PIMs.
• Serve as needed on ABIM committees.
• Participate in staff review of third party programs and products that have applied for recognition under ABIM’s
Approved Quality Improvement program.
• Support ABIM staff in responding to diplomate questions regarding the clinical content of the PIMs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Board Certified Physician in Internal Medicine and enrolled in MOC.
• Strong knowledge of evidenced based medicine including clinical guidelines and clinical performance
measures.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff
and leadership.
• Experience leading a quality improvement project.
• Experience in leading physician based committees.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet and adapt to rapidly changing deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively and flexibly as a member of team.
• Excellent writing skills desirable.
• Commitment to ABIM’s mission and values.
• Active medical license and in a clinical practice (or recently left) in internal medicine.
