Costume notes
Joseph
Joseph is a slightly nerdy, anti-social, awkward
teenager.
Joseph has two different costumes throughout
the film, and both are made to give the nerdy
awkward impression we are aiming to achieve,
across to the audience.
Joseph’s costumes
Joseph starts the film in his pyjamas, much like a
child would wear to bed. We want to emphasis
how immature he is, pyjamas are usually linked
with children and we are trying to put across to
the audience that he’s still a dependant child at
heart.
The matching pyjamas also show how organised
he is, showing the audience he thinks everything
through. Also, emphasising that he is neat and
precise, which helps to make sense of others
scenes of him tidying and making a personal
checklist.
Joseph’s costumes
As lady candy arrives Joseph changes into his
second costume, a more formal casual outfit.
The grey shirt, and the tie is worn together and has
the effect of both: portraying to the audience that he is
nerdy and awkward by the way the colours of both
items don’t match, and the way he’s tried to make a
casual shirt formal with a unfashionable tie. Also,
emphasising how important this is for him, as he has
tried to impress the escort and dress for an occasion,
although within his panic (due to this being so
important) he has ended up with a strange
combination.
The jeans are casual and regular fitted, nothing
abnormal, casual and plain, showing the audience
that his planned outfit was a bad mixture of formal
and casual. Once again showing his child like thought
process.
Lady Candy’s costume
She will be dressed in all black, we wanted to go for one plain
colour, and the use of a darker colour portrays they are up to no
good.
She will be wearing black heels, this is so she is the exact same
height as Joseph. Even though she is the escort and has been
called a for her service to Joseph, and way they are at level
heights show there is no clear dominant figure and emphasis’s
his lack of confidence.
Her all black dress has been specifically chosen to give the best
possible representation across to the audience. The dress is
quite high up on her legs, making them look longer than Josephs
and lowering his dominance. Also, paired with the revealing neck
area which shows cleavage, creates an impression of seduction,
portraying to the audience that she’s experienced and knows
how to seduce Joseph and show him what he wants.
