Relationship
 The Federal Republic of Germany and the People’s Republic of China established
diplomatic relations in 1972.
 Over the past 40 years, relations have become extremely wide-ranging, remarkably close
and of growing political substance.
 China is Germany’s most important economic partner in Asia and Germany is China’s
leading trading partner in Europe.
 In the face of the global economic and financial crisis, stable cooperation between the
two countries’ strongly export-oriented economies is of great importance.
 The joint declaration by Federal Chancellor Schröder and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao -May
2004- lead to a Sino-German “strategic partnership in global responsibility”.

4. 2. Overview on the Exhibition 4
The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Staatliche Dresden
and the Bayerische München jointly present an
exhibition of European art from the Enlightenment in
conjunction with the National Museum of China
In April 2011, the three German museum bodies unveil
nealry 600 exhibits, spread over a total display area of
2700 m² in the National Museum of China in Beijing.
The exhibition features artworks which best exemplify the
great ideas of the Enlightenment, its influence on the fine
arts and its effective history, from the artistic revolutions of
the 18th century right up to the present day

To attribute new significance to art in the Europe of the
Enlightenment.
To accelerate technological developments and social change
To disseminate pictures into all areas of public life.
To promote the idea that “the artist” is an evolved public figure, a
genius and revolutionary.
To strengthen the belief that art can change people and society
became the guiding tenet of an entire epoch.

The Sino-German Relations
 A joint declaration issued by Federal Chancellor Merkel and
Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in July 2010 elevates bilateral
relations to a new level.
 The two governments will be seeking to coordinate policy
more closely:
 annual intergovernmental consultations.
 The first bilateral intergovernmental consultations, presided over by
Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel,
were held in Berlin in late June 2011.
 The consultations resulted in the signing of numerous agreements
further intensifying concrete cooperation between China and
Germany in the future in areas such as electro-mobility.
