Introduction
Awareness
• Consumer awareness is a key element to achieve significant
penetration rates in the market for ITS and eSafety
• Consumer awareness means AWARENESS about:
Problem
Solution
Benefits
Value for personal life
How can we raise the awareness?

The euroFOT project
Objectives of the project
• To assess the impacts of ADAS in real traffic, by focusing on the
analysis of:
safety
traffic efficiency
environment
driver behaviour
driver workload
user acceptance
usability
• Cost-benefit analysis, based on results from impact assessment

Methodology & data management
Definition of required signals
Research questions:
e.g. impact of ACC on safety,
environment, traffic efficiency etc.
Hypotheses:
e.g. ACC decreases number of
incidents
Performance indicators
e.g. number of incidents
Signals
e.g. vehicle speed, distance to forward
vehicle, deceleration etc.

Methodology & data management
Interactions
• Mainly four sub-projects involved:
SP1: Management
SP5: Coordination of
VMCs
13 12/11/2010 17th ITS World Congress, Busan 2010 www.eurofot-ip.eu
Methodology & data management
Experimental design
• Driver is owner of the FOT vehicle
• First three months will serve as a baseline period
• Within baseline period functions will be deactivated
• Baseline period is followed by treatment period
• Within treatment period functions are activated
• Drivers are free to activate functions as they usually do
• Testing of hypotheses by comparison of baseline vs. treatment period
• Example experimental design MAN:

Current status & Outlook
• Piloting phase completed
• FOT started at the most VMCs in June 2010
• Data collection and processing of data started
• Prioritized hypotheses have been broken down to required signals
and statistical methods
• Methodologies for impact assessment will defined and
implemented by beginning of 2011
• Data analysis (testing of hypotheses) will start by beginning of
next year
• Final results will be available by end of March 2012
