Introduction
Childline India Foundation is a non-
government organization (NGO) in India
that operates a telephone helpline called
Childline, for children in distress. It was
India's first 24 hour, toll free phone
outreach service for children. Based in
Mumbai, it helps the homeless children. It
also helps the children who are poor and
who cannot go to school. It give those
children education. They collect money
from people and they use the money to
help these children. Child line number is -
1098. The childline received average two
million calls in a year, most from children
wanting to rescue from their place of work.
History
 Established as an experimental project
in June 1996, by Jeroo Billimoria, a
professor at the Tata Institute of Social
Sciences
 Subsequently, Government of India,
established the Childline across India in
1998-99, under Ministry of Women and
Child Development
CHILDLINE TODAY
 The Government of India has
presented CHILDLINE as its
response to the Child Rights
Convention.
 CHILDLINE works towards ensuring
that all children in need of care and
protection are aware of and have
access to services and aware of child
rights.
The country's first toll-free tele-helpline
for street children has grown into a
national child protection service that
operates in over 291 cities and towns
in India. In 17 years, CHILDLINE has
received 27 million calls as of March
2013 from children in need of care and
protection from across the country.
Vision Statement
A child-friendly nation that
guarantees the rights and
protection of all children.
Mission Statement
CHILDLINE will reach out to every child in need
and ensure their rights and protection through
the Four Cs.
 CONNECT through technology to reach the 'last
mile'.
 CATALYSE systems through active advocacy.
 COLLABORATE through integrated efforts
between children, the state, civil society, corporate
and community to build a child friendly social order.
 COMMUNICATE to make child protection
everybody's priority.
Achievements
 Based on CHILDLINE’s experiences, the Government
has redrafted the Juvenile Justice Act. They have also
been designated as one of the organizations to place
children before the Juvenile Justice Boards and Child
Welfare Committees. The new act adopts the child
rights perspective and focuses on non-institutional
services like adoption, sponsorship, foster care etc.
 Was appointed convener of the working group for
children in need of care and protection. This group
was responsible for drafting the policy and financial
outlay for child protection to be included in the 10th
Five Year Plan of India.
 Through the National Initiative for Child Protection
(NICP) they have been enabled the Allied systems to
explore ways of making their systems more child
friendly.
Future Plans
 Reach out to children in every district of
the country
 Awareness about CHILDLINE among
every Indian child
 Set up a national database on child
protection services
 Revolutionize the non profit sector
through our example of adaptation of
technology to development

How does CHILDLINE reach
the child in need???
After a child/concerned adult dials 1098,
a CHILDLINE member who depending on
the nature of the call, provides appropriate
assistance.
It may vary from counseling over the
phone for emotional support and guidance,
information and referral to services for the
caller, to information about CHILDLINE.
In the case of an emergency it may
require reaching out to the child
immediately. A CHILDLINE team then
rushes to the child within 60minutes of the
call and appropriate help is provided.
What happens to the child
thereafter???
This may range from taking the
child to a shelter/hospital, protection
from abuse, repatriation to intensive
counseling etc.
After the emergency needs of the
child have been addressed,
CHILDLINE explores options with the
child to study, learn a trade, go back
home etc. Based on the decision of
the child, CHILDLINE links the child to
an appropriate organization in the city.
How can a corporate
contribute to CIF?
Co branding or Cause
marketing initiatives
Donations
Employee giving
Lend services and facilities
How can we help ???
There are various ways in which one can
support CHILDLINE.
 Call 1098 when to see any child in distress
 Tell every vulnerable child you see, about
CHILDLINE 1098
 Make a donation to CHILDLINE India
Foundation so they can reach more
children in more cities.
 Volunteer CHILDLINE
