1. Channel for Broadcast
We have chosen the channel BBC Three to broadcast our documentary on. BBC
Three‟s website explains that its target audience includes those in the 16-34 year old
group and has the purpose of providing “innovative” content to younger audience,
focusing on new talent and new technologies. The channel is on
air from 19:00 to around 05:00 each night. BBC Three
was launched in 2003 and allows the BBC to appeal to
younger audiences. This is why we have chosen BBC
Three as our channel for broadcast because it focuses
on the problems and issues that the young generation
face today. They broadcast programmes such as, „Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents‟
and „Snog, Marry, Avoid?‟ which explore the lives of young adults. BBC Three
seemed like the right choice for our channel
for broadcast as our documentary „Underage
and Protected‟ also focuses on an issue that
is affecting a lot of young teenagers today
and becoming an ever growing problem in
today‟s society. We have chosen to
broadcast our documentary at 10pm
because our documentary is aimed to make
teenagers think twice about the contraception and we know, through research and
questionnaires that most teenagers will be watching at that time. We also know
through research that BBC Three have shown similar documentaries before such as,
„Unsafe Sex in the City‟. This documentary explores the impact that unsafe sex has
had on our society. This is relevant to our documentary as it has a similar topic and
also appeals to a similar target audience as our documentary therefore, this makes
us sure that BBC Three is the right channel to broadcast our documentary.
