2. Introduction
When it came down to deciding what sort of style we wanted our
documentary to be, we decided to take inspiration from an already created
style.
The style we chose was very satirical, light hearted, but at the same time
capable of getting the facts across to the viewer.
We decided to mimic/take inspiration from the style of Charlie Brooker
3. Charlie Brooker
Charlie Brooker is a journalist, satirist and
documentary creator
His documentary tend to focus on the development
of forms of entertainment such as TV, films and
games.
He has also created weekly documentaries, which
look back at the week and offers an opinion on the
events. Shows such as Newswipe (which looks
back on the news of the week) and Screenwipe
(which was a series which looked at the
development of television) both had similar styles. A
style we wanted.
4. Aspects of the style
One aspect of this particular style is the tone
The tone is very light hearted, humorous and satirical
It isn’t afraid to mock, but at the same time inform the viewer of events, as
well as different areas of the topic
It also employs a rather dry sense of humour, opting to use more visual cues
rather than vocal ones
It also mixes both audio and video in a way to make it impactful, whether that
be a sound effect happening as something happens on screen, or the voice
over going in time with what’s been shown
The voice would also act as a ‘reference’ for what is going on, on screen
5. In Our Documentary
In our documentary, we believe that by employing this style, we will
successfully create a final product which is both unique and memorable
We are trying to stay away from the typical clichés found in a documentary,
especially a student one
We are confident that our final product will live up to the style, and definitely
be memorable.
