3. Advent Confession and Forgiveness
P: In the name of the Father, and the
Son, and the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen
P: The Lord of Advent tells us to be
watchful for his coming, keeping our
lamps lighted, and our hearts clean.
All: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
P: Let us confess to the Lord.
(time for silent reflection)
4. P: Gracious God…
All: We prepare our hearts for the coming
of Your Son, confessing our sins of
omission and commission, confessing
our lure into a world that knows not
the Christ of our preparations. Forgive
our sins, cleanse our hearts, and
keep us faithful and focused on the
promised coming of Your Son, Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.
5. P: God sent Jesus, to show infinite love
and forgiveness for all. Our sins are
forgiven in the holy name of Christ
who came and will come again.
All: Amen.
7. O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie;
Above thy deep
and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by.
8. Yet in thy dark streets
shineth
The everlasting light;
The hopes and fears
of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
9. For Christ is born of Mary;
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep
the angels keep
Their watch of wond'ring love.
10. O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth;
And praises sing
to God the king,
And peace to all the earth.
11. How silent, how silently
The wondrous gift is giv'n!
So God imparts
to human hearts
The blessings of his heav'n.
12. No ear may hear his coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls
will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
13. O holy Child of
Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin
and enter in,
Be born in us today.
14. We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord, Emmanuel.
15. LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE
P: The first candle of Advent is the
light of Hope.
All: Our hope is in God, and in
God’s son Jesus Christ. He is the
one appointed by God to be judge
of all things. He is the one through
whom God has promised to save
and redeem all people.
16. P: We light this candle today to
remind us that God is our hope.
All: To remember that God is
the only hope of the world. We
thank God for the promises He
has made to us and for the light
Christ has brought into the
world.
17. A CANDLE IS BURNING
( sung to tune of “Away in the Manger”)

heaven's starry sky,
our hearts we prepare now for
Jesus is nigh.

hope that he brings – the hope that

God, now and forever.
Amen
23. ADVENT SONG
A voice in the wild
and the gift from a
child; a promise of
far off ages.
The world greets
the word and a
way to the Lord;
a light in our
darkest places.
27. Each winter as the year grows older,
we each grow older too.
The chill sets in a little colder;
the verities we knew
seem shaken and untrue.
28. When race and class
cry out for treason,
when sirens call for war,
they over shout the voice of reason
and scream till we ignore
all we held dear before.
29. Yet I believe beyond believing,
that life can spring from death;
that growth can flower from our grieving;
that we can catch our breath
and turn transfixed by faith.
30. So even as the sun is turning
to journey to the north,
the living flame, in secret burning,
can kindle on the earth
and bring God’s love to birth.
31. O Child of ecstasy and sorrows,
O Prince of peace and pain,
brighten today’s world by
tomorrow’s,
renew our lives again;
Lord Jesus, come and reign.

body of Christ and into the
mission we share: join us in
giving thanks and praise to God
and bearing God's creative and
redeeming word to all the world.
53. OFFERTORY PRAYER
God of hope, you bless our lives
with gifts which enable us to live in
harmony with you and with one
another. In Jesus you have revealed
the human face of your love and
empowered us with the Holy Spirit
54. to reveal that same love in all we do
and say and are these gifts we offer
in response seem paltry in
comparison, but we offer them and
our lives confident that you will
receive, bless and use them in the
name of Jesus Christ our Lord, and
our Savior.
Amen

forever and forever.

98. Wake, awake, for night is flying,
the watchmen on the heights are
crying: awake, Jerusalem, at last.
Midnight hears the welcome voices,
and at the thrilling cry rejoices;
Come forth, you maidens! Night is past
99. The bridegroom comes! Awake:
Your lamps with gladness take!
Alleluia!
Raise and prepare the feast to share;
go, meet the bridegroom,
who draws near
100. Zion hears the watchmen singing,
and all her heart with joy is springing;
She wakes, she rises from her gloom,
Her dear friend comes down, all
glorious, the strong in grace, in truth
victorious:
Her star is ris’n, her light is come.
101. Now come, O Blessed One,
Lord Jesus, God’s own Son.
Sing Hosanna!
Oh, hear the call! Come one, come all,
and follow to the banquet hall.
102. Gloria! Let heav’n adore you!
Let saints and angels sing before you,
With harp and cymbal’s clearest tone.
Gates of pearl, twelve portals gleaming,
lead us to bliss beyond all dreaming,
with angel choirs around your throne.
103. No eye has caught the light,
no ear the thund’ring might of such glory.
There we will go: what joy we’ll know!
There sweet delight will ever flow

113. PSALM 122
P: I was glad when they
said to me, “Let us go to
the house of the Lord.”
All: Now our feet are
standing within your
gates, O Jerusalem.
114. P: Jerusalem is built as a
city that is at unity with
itself;
All: to which the tribes go
up, the tribes of the
Lord, the assembly of
Israel, to praise the
name of the Lord.
115. P: For there are the
thrones of judgment, the
thrones of the
house of David.
All: Pray for the peace of
Jerusalem: “May they
prosper who love
you.
116. P: Peace be within your
walls and quietness within
your towers.
All: For the sake of my
kindred and companions, I
pray for your prosperity.
P: Because of the house of
the Lord our God, I will see
to do you good.
118. GOSPEL RESPONSE: ALLELUIA P. 205 ELW
Alleluia! Lord and Savior:
open now your saving word.
Let it burn like fire within us;
speak until our hearts are stirred.
Alleluia! Lord, we sing for the good
news that you bring.
122. My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood
and righteousness;
no merit of my own I claim,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
123. When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in ev'ry high and stormy gale
my anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
124. His oath, his covenant, his blood
sustain me in the raging flood;
when all supports are washed away,
he then is all my hope and stay.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
125. When he shall come
with trumpet sound,
oh, may I then in him be found,
clothed in his righteousness alone,
redeemed to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
