Whiteline Flatout talks about performance suspension tech and setup. Covers the major topics including grip amd more grip and how to get it. Using WALK, ROCK and roll control systems to improve performance. Prepared by Whiteline Jim to help customers understand the important relationship between grip and handling.
2. BASICALLY WE ARE DEALING WITH
GRIP
AND BETTER GRIP , MEANS BETTER
HANDLING
AND BETTER HANDLING, MEANS BETTER
PERFORMANCE
3. The aim of a suspension system is to
keep as much of the tyre in contact with
the road when turning, braking and
even driving in a straight line.
It is both the beginning and end of all
that happens in suspension and
chassis design.

Whiteline products will
typically achieve a 0.02 to
0.10 lateral G increase
9. SWAY BARS
A sway bar is a torsion spring that resists body roll motions.
10. SWAY BARS
HAVE 2 MAIN FUNCTIONS:
TO REDUCE VEHICLE BODY LEAN
TO LIMIT AND TUNE
UNDERSTEER & OVERSTEER
11. SWAY BARS & DESIGN
Motion ratio changes the leverage and effective rate/ stiffness of
the sway bar at the wheel
This rate/ stiffness of an anti-roll bar is based on
• its diameter,
• the stiffness of the material,
• the inverse of the length of the lever arms (i.e., the shorter
the lever arm, the stiffer the bar).
• the geometry of the mounting points,
• and the rigidity of the bar's mounting points.
12. SWAY BARS
Adjustable sway bars allow their stiffness to be altered by increasing or
reducing the length of the lever arms.
This permits the roll stiffness to be tuned for different situations without
replacing the entire bar.
The stiffer the bar, the more force
required to move the left and right
wheels relative to each other. This
increases the amount of force
required to make the body roll.
WHITELINE OFFERS A WIDE
RANGE OF ADJUSTABLE
SWAY BARS
13. SWAY BARS
ADJUSTABLE SWAY BARS
Basically the centre setting represents the published sway bar diameter size
Each change in setting
represents a „rule of thumb‟
diameter change of
+/- 1mm
IMPORTANT
Initially set the link at the
centre or softest setting
to allow driver to become
accustom to the larger
sway bar and then tune to
preferred setting and also set front and rear bars similarly.
16. BARS on CARS
The simple swaybar guide to better handling:
FWD – increase the rear sway bar size
RWD – increase the front sway bar size
4WD – increase rear then front bar size
AWD – increase rear then front bar size
18. BRACING
No such thing as too much chassis
stiffness, as it:
85 part # Reduces body flex
Maintains camber settings
Maintains spring rate
Maintains ride quality
Looks good!!!!
22. ALIGNMENT SETTINGS
WHAT ARE THE BEST ONES?
The simple answer is that there is no such thing!
It is a dynamic process with the quot;correct valuequot;
varying from:
driver to driver,
car to car,
driving environment.

24. ANTI GEOMETRY
• “Anti” features in suspension systems are a
characteristic that can be used to influence the stiffness
of the front or rear suspension under traction forces
(under braking or accelerating).
• In the front suspension there may be levels of anti-dive
during braking and anti-lift during accelerating (assuming
traction to the front wheels is present), similarly in the
rear there could be anti lift during braking and anti-squat
during acceleration.
25.
26. ANTI LIFT KITS
Whiteline created this category
globally:
Also known as a WALK
Adds positive caster
Minimise lift under acceleration
Steering precision gains

27. ROLL CENTRE
The roll center of a vehicle is the notional point at which the
cornering forces in the suspension are reacted to the vehicle
body.
33. BUMP STEER
• Bump Steer is when your wheels steer
themselves without input from the
steering wheel.
• This undesirable toe change is caused by
normal suspension movement.
• The end result is compromised steering
precision
35. ROLL CENTRE KIT
Most vehicles front roll geometry actually
encourages roll the lower you go
Also known as a ROCK
Reduces understeer
Maintains optimum camber angles
Induces better front end grip

37. TRACTION CONTROL
Voiding in the rear bushes allows the rear
cradle to change the suspension alignment
dynamically allowing toe angle changes to the
rear suspension during cornering.
Large cross member misalignment and
movement can be noticed and observed during
hard constant cornering, giving a sensation of
the rear end squirming around.
By fitting inserts into the voiding, dramatically
reduces the effect of this and allows a more
positive feel from the rear end during cornering.
