What is it?
              The Japanese surprise attack on Hawaii.

How does it relate to World War II?
              It was December 7, 1941 before the United
              States had entered World War II.

Why is it important?
              The Japanese thought the US in Hawaii
              was a threat to their empire. This attack
              brought the United States into declaring
              war on Japan.
Rome-Berlin Axis




 Mussolini saw Hitler’s growing strength and
 thought it best to join forces. This is where
 the potential for world war increased
 dramatically.

Japanese       They were held prisoner in
Internment     camps in the United States
               until the end of the war.

Bataan Death March
Japan considered
surrender
dishonorable.

Allied soldiers who
surrendered were
abused.
                 In 1942, 70,000 prisoners were
                    forced to march for 50 miles.
                           Only 54,000 survived.
Doolittle raid on Japan
Colonel Doolittle sent
US bombers to attack
Tokyo in 1942.

It proved that Japan
could be attacked on
their own soil.
Trying to resolve
a conflict by
giving someone
what they want
is called

This battle was

been hired by the US government to
develop an atomic bomb.
Hiroshima
August 6, 1945


      The atomic bomb was dropped on the
          Japanese city of Hiroshima.

      Three days later, another bomb was
            dropped on Nagasaki.

              Japan surrendered.
