This situation typically occurs to hikers-campers who are out in the wilderness. Remember; people are struck by lightning because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. A tent is designed to keep you dry, and to keep the bugs away from you. It offers no protection whatsoever from a direct or nearby lightning flash. Remember, if you are camping, and your vehicle is nearby, go run to your vehicle and wait out the storm inside your vehicle. Although being in a home or business is very safe when thunder and lightning is occurring outside, it is important for you to not be in contact with anything that could be connected to the outside utility wiring (such as a computer, a corded telephone, etc).
